Our unique Hungarian-style guesthouse was built in early 19th century and its furnishings, even after renovation, are reminiscent of that era. It is located 7 km from Lake Balaton and 4 km from Káli basin, on the northern shore of the lake. All the important rooms (kitchen, bathroom, spacious living room, bedroom) are on the ground floor, with a steep staircase to the attic leading to a more modern bedroom. It is a listed building. Accomodates max. 5 people. Nice indoor playing area for kids.

The space
Our house is a stone-built farmhouse, cool even in summer.
The open kitchen is still used as a kitchen, and the former stable has been converted into a covered terrace for storing bicycles.
An interesting feature of the house is that during the renovation we kept all the elements that could be preserved: old doors, window panes and wall recesses show how the house was used by the Swabian farmers.
Three doors of the house open from the so called 'stolen porch': the ground floor bedroom, the attic bedroom and the kitchen-living room-bathroom have separate entrances.

Guest access
Guests can use the whole house and garden. The doors opening from the stolen porch are a consequence of the historic nature of the house, and should be expected in winter.
In the sommer natural air condition is provided by the thick stonewalls, they keep the inside of the house cool.

Other things to note
In cooler weather, the house is recommended for people who don't mind that some rooms open from the porch. This is not noticeable in summer, but in winter you have to walk out from the kitchen to the bedroom onto the porch, which is open and unheated. In the autumn and spring, there are great bike rides in the area, we provide maps and ideas. The covered terrace can accommodate up to 5 bikes.

Where you’ll be

Balatoncsicsó, Hungary

Balatoncsicsó is halfway between the Kapolcs Valley and Lake Balaton. It is a hilly area with good cycling conditions. The Swabian farmers brought with them not only the culture of building with stone, but also the skills of viticulture, the benefits of which are still enjoyed in the Nivegy Valley. (The wine is really good!) Veszprém 25 km, Tihany 18 km, Balatonfüred 25 km, Tapolca 22 km. In other words, within half an hour's drive you can reach several large towns.
The beaches of Lake Balaton are very popular, but there are also many attractions outside the beaches: the Hegyestű (Monoszló), the Stone Vines (in Szentbékkálla and Kővágóörs), the Balázs church and the ruins of the church of the church of Ároktő, Dörgicse, the castle of Nagyvázsony.
...And the beautiful panorama from every hill.

My work: Rural Sociology and Communication Bt.
Fun fact: I photograph wild orchid species.
I have been living in Balatoncsicso for 18 years as a mother. Until we had children, we've traveled a lot in the world; since we became a large family, we've been less mobile, but we're still open to the world by welcoming guests. We hope that all the help we have received in our travels can now be rewarded by showing our beloved countryside to those who stay with us. My husband and I both studied rural development.
