Room in a home

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
We are a 5 to 10 min walk to Palm Cove beach, shops and restaurants.

Your bedroom has a queen bed, bar fridge, laptop desk, table & chairs and air conditioning.

We are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and we require our guests to also be fully vaccinated.

Our shared home listing is perfect for those visitors to the Cairns region who want to be out and about exploring the reef, rainforest, hiking and touring and need a place to rest and relax for their next day’s adventures.

The space
The house is big, cool and airy. We don't air condition the common areas of the house because the house has cathedral ceilings with open louvre windows and wide doors capturing breezes from all directions.

The bedroom has split system quiet air conditioning.

Guest access
The bedrooms are large so we have included a bar fridge and table and chairs.

You are welcome to access all parts of the house & garden except our own bedroom.

During your stay
We are both fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In the interests of the health and safety of our household we require all guests to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. You may be asked for evidence of this on check-in.

These days John works from home in an office on the verandah mostly doing IT related tasks and projects. His relevant background as an AirBnB host is as a Daintree nature guide and restaurant maitre d'. Happy to provide advice on any tourism activity in the region.

Mary has mostly worked as a librarian over the years but these days sees no reason to leave our Palm Cove paradise so she works a couple of days a week in the local Palm Cove Minimart.

Bobby, the one year old Cairn Terrier, can be over-enthusiastic. We suggest that you need to be a dog lover to be comfortable during your stay.

Neighborhood highlights

We chose Palm Cove 30+ years ago to make our home because we considered it the perfect mix of natural beauty and access to education, health, entertainment, airport and essential services.

The palm fringed beach, off shore islands, rainforested mountains (or hills if you're from Switzerland) small community and access to the Great Barrier Reef all played a part. We are very happy with our decision back then.

My work: Media Apps Pty Ltd
Lives in Palm Cove, Australia
We are a couple in our sixties (OK, John might be over 70 and Mary MIGHT have JUST reached it) . Mary is originally from Zimbabwe. John is originally from Sydney. We met in Nairobi and have been married since 1976. Just after getting married we ran the Cottage Point Inn in Sydney's Kuringai National Park for 8 years before moving to Palm Cove in 1985 with our two young sons. We built the house that you will share with us in 1989. Mary has mostly been involved with library work. John's background has been mostly in tourism and hospitality and more recently in developing tourism and hospitality projects on Cape York Peninsula and in Torres Strait for Indigenous communities and individuals. We have both worked in different places around the world. John ran overland trips through Africa in the early 70's and a few years ago sailed a small yacht from San Diego to Cairns with one of our sons. We like to keep life interesting and are happy to chat or otherwise with our guests. We can't understand why the whole world isn't living in Palm Cove. We look forward to sharing our home with you.
