Triple room inside Studio Olive, our 150-year-old Sri Lankan courtyard house and working jewellery studio in Ahangama. The room features a king bed plus an additional single bed, making it a good option for friends travelling together, couples wanting extra space or longer relaxed stays on Sri Lanka’s south coast.
Guests can learn about jewellery making, join workshops and experience a more artisanal side of Ahangama most travellers never get to see.
The space
Room 04 features a king-size bed plus an additional single bed, along with air conditioning and access to a private bathroom located directly next to the room. The room opens into Studio Olive’s shared courtyard and communal spaces, creating a relaxed and naturally social atmosphere throughout the house.
Studio Olive started as a jewellery studio inside an old Sri Lankan courtyard house and slowly grew into something much bigger. Today, it’s part guest house, part creative space and part behind-the-scenes glimpse into the more artisanal side of Ahangama.
The house is over 150 years old and built around a traditional open courtyard, with shared spaces filled with sketchbooks, gemstones, coffee cups, workshop guests and the everyday rhythm of people making things by hand.
Guests staying at Studio Olive are stepping into a real creative environment, not a polished hotel disconnected from the place around it. Small creative activity and jewellery work still happen at the house, while our main daily jewellery-making workshops are hosted at the nearby Olive Yu Jewellery store in Ahangama.
We created Studio Olive for people who want something a little more personal than a standard stay. Somewhere you can learn about jewellery making, meet interesting people and experience Ahangama beyond cafés, beach clubs and surf spots.
If you’re curious, creative and enjoy places with personality, stories and a little soul, we think you’ll feel very at home here.
Guest access
Guests have access to their private bedroom, shared kitchen, living room, traditional courtyard, tropical gardens and outdoor seating areas throughout the property.
Small-scale jewellery work and creative activity still take place at the house, giving guests a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the creative side of Studio Olive. Our main daily jewellery-making workshops are hosted nearby at the Olive Yu Jewellery store in Ahangama, where guests receive 20% off workshop bookings during their stay.
Studio Olive is designed to feel more like being welcomed into a creative home than staying in a traditional hotel, so guests are encouraged to relax, settle in and enjoy the atmosphere of the house.
Other things to note
Studio Olive is best suited to travellers who enjoy social, creative and lived-in spaces rather than private resort-style accommodation. The rooms open into a shared courtyard and communal areas, so guests will naturally hear a bit of life happening around the house throughout the day and early evening.
The property is connected to a working jewellery studio and creative space, giving guests a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the more artisanal side of Ahangama. While small-scale jewellery work still happens at the house, our main daily jewellery-making workshops are hosted nearby at Olive Yu Jewellery, where guests receive 20% off workshop bookings during their stay.
There are also two friendly Toy Poodles living on the property who roam the shared spaces and gardens. If you’re not comfortable around dogs or prefer very quiet, highly private accommodation, Studio Olive may not be the right fit.
As the house is surrounded by tropical gardens and built around an open-air courtyard, bugs, geckos and other little tropical creatures are simply part of life here in Sri Lanka.
The house is over 150 years old, so while the rooms are clean, comfortable and thoughtfully set up, the property is full of original character and designed to feel more like a creative home than a polished luxury hotel.
