This beautiful cottage was formerly a working Forge for the local estate. It was lovingly restored in 2021 retaining many original features including a log burner, stripped wooden floors and original oak beams. It is located in the small hamlet of Hom Green, 2 miles from Ross-On-Wye which is in the heart of the picturesque Wye Valley. The 136 mile Wye Valley walk passes within a mile of the property which is ideal for you and your dog to explore the hills, limestone gorges and viewpoints.
The space
As you step inside The Old Forge you will sense the character of its traditional features and soul. During the renovation modern comprehensive facilities were installed to make it a comfortable family & pet friendly home. It is a rustic, luxurious and relaxing place for you to unwind, curl up in front of the fire and simply enjoy your time.
Dog Friendly
Your dog will love the enclosed garden to the rear, dog bed, blankets for the sofa, dog towel, poo bags, treats & toys provided so they have a great holiday too!
The Property
The Old Forge can sleep up to eight guests. Six guests in the beds described below and two additional single foldaway beds (6ft long) for children or smaller adults can be provided for an additional £10 per night. A travel cot is also available on request free of charge.
The living room is furnished with 2 large comfy sofas, a log burner (one free basket of firewood is provided), adult and children’s books & games, a smart TV and complimentary unlimited wifi access.
The kitchen is new and fully equipped including hob & oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer.
Upstairs you will find 3 generous bedrooms.
The master bedroom has a big, comfy king sized bed with exposed oak beams, a Victorian fireplace and original stripped wooden floor.
The second bedroom has far reaching views over the neighbouring farm land. It has an original cast iron feature double bed decorated in lovely warm mustard and grey tones.
Lastly, the twin room has 2 traditional style single beds with a original Victorian bedroom chair which has been newly refurbished in a beautiful coral colour to match the room - perfect to pick up a book, sit down and relax!
Outside you can find a spacious, rear garden which is fully enclosed and suitable for children & pets. An outdoor seating area is under a wooden gazebo covered in lovely scented climbing plants - a wonderful spot for alfresco

For exploring the Wye Valley (and the river Wye) The Old Forge is ideally situated! You can walk along one of the many walks in this area of outstanding natural beauty, which includes the Wye Valley Walk and Offas Dyke. You can also enjoy some paddle boarding or canoeing on the river Wye, watch the peregrine falcons at Symmonds Yat or enjoy some of the locally made produce at one of the cider, cheese, wine or gin producers.
If a bit of history is your cup of tea then you can find Goodrich castle just 3 miles away and a bit further afield - Tintern abbey, Eastnor’s castle, Skenfrith castle, White Castle, Monmouth castle, Raglan castle all within 15 miles.
We provide a variety of walking books so just pick one that suits you, pack a flask and off you go! We also have a local annual walking festival in September each year where you can join guided walks to spectacular viewing points, historical monuments and some hidden gems in the Forest of Dean.

Guest access
There is a lockbox by the front door to collect the key. The code will be provided in advance of your stay.
Other things to note
There is parking for 3 cars at the old forge.
There are 2 entrances to the driveway so it is a drive in drive out arrangement. Just be aware that the entrance is on the narrow side as the original stone walls (the gateway) are still in place in which horse & carts used to be brought through to visit the smithy.
The central heating is available from mid Sept to mid May however logs are provided for the log burner all year round.
