Beautiful area

This home is in a scenic location.
Old Cottage is a charming 17th-century stone cottage in the heart of Winster, one of the Peak District’s most picturesque villages. Perfect for walkers and hikers, beautiful countryside routes begin right from the doorstep, including the nearby Limestone Way. After a day exploring the Derbyshire Dales, return to the warmth of the wood-burning stove and the cottage’s characterful vaulted bedroom beneath exposed beams.

The space
Old Cottage sleeps up to four guests and blends historic Peak District character with stylish modern comforts.

RELAX & UNWIND
The welcoming sitting room centres around a large stone fireplace with wood-burning stove, creating a cosy space to relax after a day walking or hiking in the surrounding hills, especially on cooler evenings. Traditional features including exposed beams, sash windows and original flagstone floors add to the cottage’s charm.

COOK & DINE
The light and airy kitchen-diner features hand-built shaker units, solid wood worktops and a classic Belfast sink, with everything needed for comfortable, self-catered stays, whether that’s a quick breakfast before heading out or a slower evening meal.

REST & SLEEP
Upstairs you’ll find two inviting bedrooms. The beautiful vaulted master bedroom is the highlight of the cottage — a spacious and atmospheric room with exposed beams and soft natural light. A second bedroom with twin beds offers flexible sleeping for friends or family.

FRESHEN UP
A compact, modern ground-floor wet room with walk-in shower and underfloor heating completes the space.

STEP INTO VILLAGE LIFE
Step outside and you’re immediately in the centre of village life. Two traditional pubs and the community-owned village shop are just a short walk away, while scenic footpaths lead directly out into the rolling White Peak countryside.

EXPLORE THE PEAK DISTRICT
Within a short drive you’ll find Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, making Old Cottage a great base for exploring the Peak District from easy days out to longer walks and adventures.

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE
Old Cottage is a traditional village property with a compact layout and plenty of character. There is no private garden or outdoor space, but the surrounding countryside and walking routes are just moments away. The cottage sits on a village road, and while you can stop outside briefly to unload, parking is nearby rather than directly outside the door.

IDEAL FOR
Old Cottage is well suited to couples, friends or small families looking for a comfortable base to explore the Peak District, with walking routes, local pubs and village amenities all within easy reach.

MAY NOT SUIT
The cottage may be less suitable for very young children or those looking for private outdoor space or parking directly outside the property. If you’re unsure, please feel free to get in touch before booking.

Guest access
Guests will have private access to the entire cottage during their stay. Entry is via a key safe, allowing flexible self check-in on arrival.

Old Cottage is located in the centre of Winster, a historic Peak District village with narrow lanes and traditional street parking.

You should be able to pull up outside the cottage briefly to unload bags, but parking directly outside isn’t guaranteed. Guests usually park on the nearby village streets wherever space is available, just a short walk away.

Winster is set on a hillside, so depending on where you park there may be a short uphill or downhill walk back to the cottage.

Full arrival details and key safe instructions will be shared before your stay.

Other things to note
Old Cottage is a traditional Peak District property and retains many original features that add to its character.

SECURITY: The property has an external Ring security camera at the entrance, used for security and to help manage the property remotely.

STAIRS: The staircase is narrow and fairly steep, typical of older cottages. It may be less suitable for very young children, elderly guests or those with reduced mobility, so please bear this in mind when booking.

BATHROOM: The bathroom is located on the ground floor and features a walk-in shower and under floor heating. Please note there is no bath, and the space is compact, reflecting the character of a traditional miners’ cottage.

CHILDREN: While families are very welcome, the cottage is better suited to those with older children. Its layout, roadside setting and lack of outdoor space mean it may not be ideal for babies or toddlers, and no baby equipment is provided. If you’re unsure, please do send us an enquiry and we’re happy to advise.

OUTDOOR SPACE: Old Cottage does not have a garden or private outdoor space, but the surrounding countryside and many Peak District walking routes are just moments away. Winster also has two play areas and an outdoor gym with a range of adult fitness equipment, all within easy reach.

VILLAGE SETTING: Old Cottage is located within a residential village community. We kindly ask guests to be respectful of neighbours, particularly during the evening.

BINS & RECYCLING: Waste collection operates on set days in the village. Full details on bin use and collection will be provided in the check-out instructions. Please do not leave sacks on the road or at the back of the property.

PETS: The cottage is not suitable for pets.

Neighborhood highlights

Winster is a historic village in the White Peak area of the Peak District National Park, known for its beautiful limestone cottages tumbling down the hillside, many of which were once home to miners and quarrymen during the village’s lead-mining boom.

At the centre of the village stands the charming 17th-century Market House, now cared for by the National Trust, surrounded by historic houses and cottages dating from the 1600s and 1700s. The village’s three main streets — Main Street, East Bank and West Bank — are connected by narrow alleyways known locally as “ginnels”, which are well worth exploring.

Winster has a community-owned shop with Post Office and two traditional pubs, and is well known for its local traditions including Morris dancing, the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race, summer Wakes celebrations, and the Secret Gardens of Winster event.
