This 120 years-old townhouse (machiya) is one of the last tea house (ochaya) in Kyoto.
Located in a former "pleasure area", it was called Gojo rakuen ("the paradise of Gojo street") or Kikuhama ("The Chrysanthemum bay") and is a very attractive are.
Located between the 2 rivers Kamogawa and Takesegawa, this big house had 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. It offers a unique experience in a central district yet calm and residential.

The space
For this ancient house where guests were hosted with taste and charm, we have kept the typology of squared tatami rooms, on the second floor. This allows to have the feeling of belonging to a community while keeping a certain intimacy.

The neighborhood is very pleasant, with the proximity of the Kamogawa river.
It used to be an "island" near the city center where prostitution was authorized.
Now it is a rapidly changing neighborhood, with many new businesses opening, brew pubs and cafes.
