Misty Oak is tucked into the beautiful mountains of Basye, Virginia—where the views are incredible, the air is crisp, and Mother Nature occasionally likes to remind everyone who’s in charge. Roads near Bryce Resort can become steep, winding, snowy, icy, or all of the above during storms and winter weather. Translation: your GPS may say “easy drive” while the mountain says, “Cute idea.”
For the smoothest possible arrival, we strongly recommend:
✔️ Monitoring weather forecasts before your trip
✔️ Traveling in a properly equipped vehicle during winter conditions
✔️ Considering travel insurance for extra peace of mind
We genuinely want every guest to arrive stress-free and ready to relax, but weather, road conditions, and vehicle preparedness are outside the host’s control. If conditions make travel difficult or prevent access to the cabin, it is not considered a host-related issue. A little planning goes a long way toward making your mountain getaway unforgettable for all the right reasons.

Parking is available in our private driveway, which can comfortably accommodate up to 3 vehicles. In compliance with our community's HOA rules, street parking is not permitted. We kindly ask that you park all vehicles in the designated off-street space provided.
🔑**Entry**
Enjoy a seamless and flexible arrival with our self-check-in process. You will be provided with a unique code for the smart lock, allowing you to access the property at your convenience after the designated check-in time.
🏡**Full Access to Your Mountain Retreat**
Guests have full and private access to the entire home and its wonderful amenities. This includes all four bedrooms, both bathrooms, the kitchen, the open-concept living and dining area, the upstairs loft, and the basement game room.
Make the most of our extensive outdoor features, including:
- The multi-level decks with comfortable seating and dining areas.
- The private, fenced-in hot tub for a relaxing soak.
- The 2-person sauna located on the lower deck.
- The propane BBQ grill on the upper deck.

⛔️**Off-Limits Areas**
For your safety and our maintenance needs, a couple of areas are off-limits to guests. These include a locked, unfinished room in the basement and a locked owner's closet. We appreciate your cooperation in respecting these private spaces.

🐻🦌**Wildlife & Our Forest Setting**
Our cabin is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, which is home to abundant wildlife. It's common to spot deer, foxes, and even the occasional black bear.
-🍔 Food & Trash Safety: To keep both you and the local animals safe, never leave food or trash outside. Please use the indoor trashcans and ensure lids are securely closed. Be sure to clean the outdoor grill and tables after each use.
- 🐿Admire from a Distance: If you encounter wildlife, please enjoy the sight from a safe distance. Never approach or feed any wild animals.
- 🪲Bugs & Critters: As we are nestled in the woods, insects and other small creatures are a normal part of the mountain landscape. Keeping doors and windows closed will help keep them outside.
- 🍃Poison Ivy: The forest floor contains natural vegetation, including poison ivy and thorny plants. We recommend staying on cleared paths and wearing long pants and closed-toe shoes if you decide to explore the woods.
‼️** Important House Rules **
- Guest Agreement Required: All guests are required to sign our Guest Agreement, policies and terms of use. This agreement helps ensure a clear and transparent understanding for both parties and protects your reservation. You may also be required to fill a Guest verification process. Please note that failure to sign the Guest Agreement or complete the Guest verification prior to arrival may result in cancellation of your reservation and loss of access to the property.
- Guest Limit: Only guests included in the reservation are permitted on the property. Unauthorized visitors are not allowed.
- The primary booking guest must be at least 25 years old and must remain on the property for the duration of the stay.
Valid government-issued photo ID may be requested to confirm age and identity prior to or at check-in.
- 🚫No Parties or Events: To maintain a peaceful environment for our neighbors and community, we have a strict no-party policy.
- 🤫Quiet Hours: Please keep noise to a minimum between 11:00 PM and 7:00 AM.
- 🚭No Smoking/No Vaping: Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside the cabin to maintain a fresh and clean environment for all guests.
- 🚫No Pets: We love animals, but for the comfort and safety of all our guests, pets are not allowed.
‼️**IMPORTANT** Please refer to the Welcome Book where you will find more information about the property, what to do around the area, safety information, the rules and potential penalties if rules were broken.
🔥📛**Indoor Fireplace Policy**
For the safety of everyone and to protect the cabin, the indoor fireplace must not be used under any circumstances. This applies at all times and to all visitors. We kindly ask that you do not light, operate, or attempt to use the fireplace for any reason. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping the cabin safe.
🍁**Seasonal Notes**
Part of the magic of staying in the woods is being surrounded by nature. Please understand that wind and weather may scatter leaves, pine needles, and small branches onto the decks and outdoor furniture. While our cleaning team works diligently, a few signs of nature are simply part of the authentic cabin experience.
🧖♀️**Hot Tub & Sauna Care**
- To keep the hot tub water clean and enjoyable for your stay, please always close and secure the cover when it is not in use.
- Kindly brush off any leaves or debris from the cover before opening it.
- Please use the provided Turkish towels for the sauna and hot tub.
- Please note that the sauna is a compact electric infrared sauna, and during very cold weather it may take longer to reach higher temperatures, especially if the door is opened. We appreciate your understanding.
🗑**Trash Disposal**
Our cleaning team will handle the trash left in the indoor bins. However, if you have excess trash that will not fit, we kindly ask that you bag it and drop it off at the nearby recycling center to avoid attracting wildlife.
Route 263 Recycling Center: 8837 Orkney Grade, Mt Jackson, VA 22842 (approx. 13-minute drive).
**❄️Winter Weather & Mountain Roads❄️**
Mountain roads in Basye, VA and around Bryce Resort can be steep and challenging during storms or winter weather. Guests are encouraged to monitor conditions, arrive with appropriate vehicles, and consider travel insurance. We are unable to assume responsibility for travel disruptions or an inability to reach the cabin due to weather or vehicle preparedness.
✅ This property has special local compliance requirements which include a signed rental agreement, ID verification, and security deposit. We know security deposits are annoying, so to make it easier on you we have 2 options that you can choose between:
Option 1: Damage Waiver ($59) – Have a worry-free stay with coverage for up to $1,500 for accidental damage (spills, breaks, mishaps) with no surprise charges. Just relax and enjoy your stay. Coverage up to 10 nights, +$2/day for longer stays, and provided by a third-party insurance company.
Option 2: Security Hold ($2,500) – Temporary hold that releases after your stay.
