The Lodge Essex is a peaceful space with far reaching views across the countryside and ancient hedgerows. Located on historic Hunting Lodge land in North Essex.

The beaches of Frinton on Sea, Walton on the Naze, Clacton and Holland on Sea are all within 15 mins drive.
Manningtree, Dedham Vale, Wivenhoe, Colchester are all within 30 mins.
Walkable to the local village of Thorpe Le Soken with its 3 pubs.

The space
Reclaimed wood, bronze splashback and copper fittings accompanied with luxury fabrics make this bespoke space a comfortable base for your Essex countryside retreat.

Free range eggs from our resident hens are provided for your stay, as the essentials such as tea, fresh coffee beans, sugar and oil.

Luxury linen bedding, robes, towels, and natural, plastic free refillable soaps are provided for your stay.

This cosy space includes;
- Log burner
- Small kitchenette with gas hob, kettle and mini fridge.
-V60 coffee dripper with coffee bean grinder and locally roasted fresh coffee beans
- Outside area with seating, wood fired outdoor bath, fire pit and grill, all perfect for al fresco dining and drinks whilst overlooking beautiful countryside
- A selection of books and games
- Yoga mats and paddle boards can also be supplied

Located on our 3 acres of land surrounded by arable fields and wildflower meadow.

Please note this is may not be the place for you if you want uber and deliveries, it is however the perfect escape from hectic modern life just 1.5 hours from London.

We are located just 5 mins from the popular Villiers Barn Wedding Venue so the perfect location for guests attending weddings nearby.

Guest access
The Lodge is walkable from Thorpe le Soken station in 20 mins with direct trains into London Liverpool Street and Stratford.

If you wish to travel round the local area then we do recommend you bring a car as many attractions are within a 30 mins drive and Suffolk is accessible for day trips.

There is on site parking for drivers just 100m from the hut and we provide a wheelbarrow for transporting your luggage.

Other things to note
We allow 1 well behaved small/ medium size hypo allergenic dog but they must always be kept on lead on the land due to free ranging hens. There is an additional cleaning fee of £20 on top please enquire before booking.

Please note that we are surrounded by a working arable farm and therefore one can expect some noise from the farm activity at times. During winter months there is also a game bird shoot that takes place on surrounding land on some weekends. Clay pigeon shooting takes place in the vicinity 28 days a year which can sometimes be heard depending on wind direction.

We supply all the wood for the log burne as well as enough kiln dry wood for 1 bath and 1 firepit. If you wish to use the bath more than once we ask for £20 each bath to cover the additional wood and £10 per additional firepit.

Myself and my partner Ollie escaped the London rat race in 2018 and are now building our version of the 'good life' on the North Essex coast. We are back at Ollie's family home - The Lodge - a 15th century hunting lodge set in 3 acres of land where we completed building our first luxury bespoke shepherd's hut in 2021 and most recently our new lakeside cabin in May 2024. We would love to have you stay at the Lodge to relax, recharge and reconnect.
