The space
The cottage is run by Judi and Max. Max grew up here, and over the past five years we’ve lovingly renovated it ourselves, blending modern comfort with its original soul and buckets of character.
We are fortunate to live in such an amazing place and consider ourselves lucky to be able to share this wee slice of heaven with our lovely guests.
Littlemill is perched right on the shoreline with direct access to the beach, this is more than a holiday cottage — it’s a truly special coastal home. With uninterrupted sea views, vast skies and ever-changing light, you’ll wake to spectacular sunrises and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.
Living Spaces
The living room frames the sea through generous windows, offering panoramic beach views. A wood-burning stove creates warmth and cosiness, while a full-size pool table and music system provide entertainment for all ages.
The fully equipped kitchen is ideal for self-catering, with an adjoining dining room for relaxed meals together. A bright conservatory, home to a flourishing grapevine, offers a unique and peaceful spot for coffee, reading or dining.
Bedrooms
Upstairs, the master suite features a king-size bed and dramatic floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea, with an en-suite bathroom and over-bath shower. The master bedroom has a triple aspect allowing you to enjoy spectacular sunrises and well as stunning sunsets. There are binoculars and a telescope to watch the abundance wildlife present, including otters, seals, dolphins and a huge variety of seabirds. The telescope can also be used to gaze at the stars and the aurora which we are sometimes fortunate enough to see.
There is also a large antique desk which can be used as a dressing table or work space as required.
The second bedroom includes a UK double and bespoke single cabin bed. It is a quirky, cosy space for couples or families. The cabin bed is a particular favourite with guests of all ages!
Bathrooms
There is a stunning en suite bathroom with a vintage 1950s art deco suite. It is a full size bathroom with over bath electric shower and underfloor heating
The family bathroom has a contemporary walk in shower but again there are nods to the past with clever repurposing of the retro turquoise bathroom suite. Again this room benefits from underfloor heating and a heated towel rail.
Character & Design
Throughout the house you’ll find antique stained glass, original ships’ lights, nautical charts, antique furniture and an original Art Deco bathroom suite — thoughtful, quirky touches that make the cottage completely one of a kind. We've deliberately repurposed as much as we can from the original cottage, lovingly restoring and reusing furniture and materials wherever possible. This is not a bland rental unit, it is a home from home, where we hope you will create memories for a lifetime.
Outside
The private garden offers outdoor seating, dining space, a fire pit and barbecue — and direct access straight onto the beach.
There is a separate "wash house" which contains the washing machine and tumble dryer which are available for guests' use.
The garden has a gate but is not fully secure as there is direct access to the beach. You should be aware of this if staying with young children or pets, and they should not be left unattended in the garden.
Guest access
The entire cottage is yours, with a private entrance, designated parking spot and private garden.
There is a gate from the garden to the main road however the garden is not secure as there is direct access to the beach and the rocks below. Young children and pets should not be left unaccompanied in the garden for this reason.
There is a shed or "wash house" in the garden which contains the washing machine and tumble dryer for your use. This is also used by us for laundry purposes for both Littlemill and our additional self catering property "The Boathouse". Our access will be minimal during your stay, however you may see us pop in and out quickly!
Other things to note
We only accept week long bookings and our checkin/out day is a Thursday. Between Nov - March we may consider shorter bookings so please feel free to message and we will try to accommodate this where possible.
We accept up to two well behaved dogs per booking. It should be noted that dogs are not allowed on furniture or beds. If your dog like to sit on furniture we ask that you bring appropriate throws or blankets to use. Please also ensure that you bring sufficient dog towels etc to clean and dry your dog before they enter the cottage.
DOGS MUST NOT BE LEFT UNACCOMPANIED IN THE PROPERTY UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.
You will be charged for any damage caused during your stay.
As mentioned previously the cottage has its own private garden. There is a gate from the garden to the man road however the garden is not secure as there is direct access to the beach and the rocks below. Young children and pets should not be left unaccompanied in the garden for this reason.
We would advise booking your ferry as soon as possible, especially if planning to bring a car. You can now travel to Arran from two ports in Ayrshire - Ardrossan and Troon, and also from Claonaig in Argyll and Bute. These routes are very busy so please visit the Caledonian MacBrayne website to book your preferred crossing.
Once your ferry is booked we STONGLY advise taking out "single trip travel disruption" insurance so that you are covered if poor weather alters your plans. Some back accounts include domestic travel insurance, so it is worth checking as you may already be covered. We are unable to refund due to ferry disruption but will always try to be as flexible as possible.
