Welcome to KinoMa!
Located in Okuwa village along the historic Nakasendo route, KinoMa is a traditional Japanese house with a long history since 1868. In its past, the house was used for silk production, and later became home to a local pharmacist who served the community.
The house was purchased by Kana and Machi, two friends who met in Tokyo. We've welcomed countless friends over the years, and now we're opening its doors to others to enjoy the space we've poured so much work and love into.
The space
KinoMa can comfortably host up to 6 guests.
Note: Elementary school-aged children (6-12year old) are counted toward the total number of guests and are charged 50% of the adult rate. Infants and toddlers sharing a bed with an adult are not counted toward the guest total and stay free of charge.
The house has four bedrooms. It also has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, a small workspace, and a garden — plenty of space to relax, work, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the Kiso Valley.
As a historic house that has been renovated and adapted many times over the years, KinoMa comes with its own unique character and a few charming quirks. We hope you’ll embrace these imperfections as part of what makes the house special!

🚙 Coming by Car:
We have two parking slots available. One covered in front of the house, and one on the back of the house, between KinoMa and our neighbor’s house.
🛂International Guests Passport Info:
By Ministry of Health, Labour and WelfareWe, are required to collect passport information from international guests who are not residents of Japan. We will request it when we confirm your reservation. Your information is private, not shared with third parties, and is handled safely.
👞 Shoes:
Please remove your outdoor shoes at the entrance. Indoor slippers are available for you to use although it's optional.
🚭 No Smoking:
Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the historical wooden house.
🦟 Insects:
Being in nature, you may encounter insects. Please feel free to use the bug spray and the mosquito coils provided in the house.
🏠 Temperature:
Traditional Japanese houses are designed with natural ventilation in mind. During warmer seasons, please open the windows and use the ceiling fans and/or electric fans. During colder seasons, you may notice drafts due to the traditional structure of the house. In addition to the floor heating, please feel free to use the additional heaters and hot water bottles provided.
⚠️ Attention: Please do not use all appliances together (Electric Oven, Kettle, Dryer). The house has only 30 amperes of electrical capacity due to technical limitations. It means that if many high-power appliances are used, a temporary blackout might occur.
