Irasshaimase! Hidden Hill Kundasang e yōkoso, welcome. We (Hidden Hill Kundasang Sdn Bhd) invite you to our humble collection of Japanese inspired homestays located just 10 minutes from the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Mount Kinabalu HQ (via car). Nestled in the lush hills of Kampung Dondon Kasigau Kundasang, each homestay is uniquely different from each other,  and yet all overlooks the majestic Mount Kinabalu.

Come in and rest your weary feet in our warm cosy home.

The space
Izu-Kogen Honeymoon Suite, named after the town on the Japanese Izu Peninsula where we spent our honeymoon, is a single bedroom for 2 with an open concept living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen. Located on the 3rd Floor (Top Most), the spaces are divided by glass sliding doors that let in natural light, and a wrap-around balcony gives a perfect panoramic vista. The en-suite facility is equipped with a Japanese soaking tub and a separated shower heater.

Once our personal home, it has sheltered us, kept us warm, and held many family dinners until we outgrew it. We're certain that it will continue to keep its guests safe, warm, and loved.

*The hidden serving hatch elevates the term "Bed and Breakfast" to a whole (or hole) other level.

Guest access
Izu-Kogen Honeymoon Suite is accessible by a flight of stairs directly from the car park and thus overlooks the campfire area. The reception, cafe, restaurant, and Yukata Studio are a short walk downhill.

Other things to note
The road leading into our property is not in good condition as part of the asphalt road has fallen into disrepair. It is advised that guests do come in a 4x4 able car, although a small Sedan type could still access the road with slight difficulty. The road is also narrow and consists of a few tight turns, do drive slowly and watch out for incoming traffic reflected on the mirrors we've installed.

We are surrounded by a secondary jungle and it is quite normal for insects and small creatures to accidentally enter the homestays. Do keep the windows and doors shut to help prevent this. Turning off the lights when not in use would also help as the lights do attract insects. We recommend guests bring their own insect repellent.

Please bring your own food supplies and fully utilise our kitchen. A portable BBQ and steamboat pot are available upon request  (charges apply).

The concept of Kidzukai 気遣い roughly translated as thoughtfulness or consideration is uniquely Japanese and the reason every traveller to Japan has such a memorable experience. We at Hidden Hill Kundasang try our best to adopt this concept.

Be mindful of the other guests and keep the noise level down after 9.00pm.

Where you’ll be

Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia

Kundasang Town is the highest settlement in Malaysia at almost 1900m  above the sea level. The temperature does get chilly with lows of 13°Celsius at night. The weather changes are unpredictable especially in the rainy season between November to March, while in July it is the warmest.

Looking north from the property, one could view Mount Kinabalu on a clear day and at night between 2am to 3am, lights from the mountain climbers could be seen snaking its way to the top.

Sunrise is just as spectacular as the warm glow spreads across the Ranau Valley under a sea of clouds and morning fog.

The resident wildlife are also an entertaining sight as a couple of squirrels could be seen jumping between the pine trees, Kites riding the midday thermals and sometimes the occasional owl perching nearby in the late dark nights.

As we do get a lot of visitors during the day, the juxtaposition of the quiet nights are a calming welcome.
