Charming, safe and peaceful oasis in a quiet residential neighborhood. Iris House is a painted lady Victorian with beautiful gardens and colorful artwork. Enjoy this airy master bedroom suite with private bathroom.

Wonderful retreat for most, but please read our house guidelines to see if it is right for your needs.

The space
Downtown Palo Alto is a lively hub of restaurants, shops, theaters, cafes, boutiques, high tech start-ups and venture capital offices. With a Caltrain station and lots of bus routes, it is easily accessible and and a convenient launch pad for local exploration. Stanford University is right next door, with all of its programs, research facilities, museums, hospitals and amazing resources. Stanford Shopping Center is a browser/buyer’s paradise and there are other commercial areas in walking distance. The whole area is a walker/bicyclist’s dream, with quiet tree-lined streets and lots to see/do.

Our Iris House is a charming remodeled painted lady Victorian in downtown Palo Alto five blocks from University Avenue and a quick mile from Stanford University. Recently totally remodeled, it combines charm and color with modern conveniences and comfortable details. The gardens are full of irises, restful seating, and wonderful scents. There are stained glass iris accents throughout, the guest areas are welcoming, and the rooms are airy and peaceful.

It is a very quiet residential neighborhood with sidewalks and white picket fences and neighbors who know each other. Safe and peaceful.

In our Oasis Room, you will be relaxing in the master bedroom suite on a luxury queen bed with new mattress and linens. One full wall of windows looks out on the oaks next door and lets in lots of natural light. The private bathroom has a huge shower and lots of counter space.

Guest access
We have three outdoor seating areas surrounded by a colorful native and drought-tolerant garden for the guests to enjoy. Guests are also welcome to lounge in the living room with couches, piano, and friendly dog companion. The porch rockers and a comfy yard swing are other favorite hang-outs.

Full kitchen access as well as use of the laundry machines. Kitchen is fully equipped with pretty much every machine and implement that you could need. Guests are responsible for providing all "consumables" that they use in the kitchen or laundry.

Some basic bikes are available for guests to borrow (at their own risk/liability).

During your stay
I work from home and am very available to help you plan out your adventures, chose the tastiest dining sites, and otherwise enjoy your visit.

Other things to note
Each room is for ONE guest only. We do not allow children or other additional guests in the room.

We have a 20lb muttadoodle (hypo-allergenic) rescue puppy named Julie who is very affectionate and loves laps. While she may bark at strangers approaching the house, it is usually with her tail wagging up a storm and she is exceedingly friendly to our guests.

Parking is free and plentiful on the street right in front of the house. Outside of school hours, there is also a small parking lot across the street. I park my car on the street and neither I nor any guests have ever had issues with security/availability. There is no parking actually on the premises (small lot covered with garden and house).

If you want to park your car here during business hours (M-F 9am-5pm) for more than two hours in a row you will need to borrow a parking permit for me. I require a $100 deposit for this permit (which I return when you return the pass.)

For those visiting Stanford University, the free shuttle stops at several nearby locations and we can easily get you oriented. I can also arrange a local bike rental (the preferred method for getting around Stanford given the scarcity of parking on campus.) Stanford main gate is about a 20 minute walk away.

Easy access to everything you could possibly want -- REALLY well situated :-)
