The oldest remaining residence and company housing in Japan. Situated in the historic silver mine town of Ikuno. Designated as a nationally important cultural landscape with efforts underway to secure UNESCO status. These houses were built by the Mitsubishi Corporation around 1876 and are now designated cultural properties of Asago City. In such a historic building, you can experience accommodation while thinking about the life of the past. Easy access to Kinosakionsen and Takeda Castle.

The space
Normally, the former Ikuno Mine staff dormitory (Koushataku ) is a tour facility, including the administration building on the premises.

There are 5 buildings, of which building 7 is an actor from Ikuno who is indispensable for Akira Kurosawa's work. It is a memorial hall where Takashi Shimura (1905-1982)'s movie appearance records and relics are exhibited.

Accommodation is available in buildings 9 and 19, both of which are nostalgic buildings from the Meiji era. Guests can enjoy the life and culture of the mining town while remembering the past.

Building No. 9 mainly displays nostalgic daily necessities from the early Showa period to the '30s of the Showa period.

It also features a traditionally styled kettle bath that can't be seen in modern homes. Please experience it.

Guest access
Parking is available next to the property. Ikuno Station is 1.2km away and is within walking distance. There's a supermarket and convenience store available too. You can experience scenery that evokes memories of the past, such as the mine trolley road along the Ichikawa river.
Rental bicycles and cycling support is also available for exploring the rest of Asago and further into Ikuno Town.

Other things to note
The former Ikuno Mine staff dormitory houses (Koushataku) is usually a tour facility from 9 am to 5 pm. There may be visitors around the facility during those times. We ask guests to please understand this.
In addition, this facility is a historic building designated as a cultural property of Asago City, therefore any fire or smoking is strictly prohibited on the premises. Uncooperative guests might be liable to a fine.

My work: Rural revitalization
With a background in industrial design, I came to Japan to explore its crafts and culture. My passions for photography, cycling, and tourism grew into a career during my time in Sapporo. Now based in Asago City, Hyogo, I manage a heritage accommodation facility, working with locals to promote regional revitalization through design, storytelling, and community-driven tourism.
