Room in a home

Your own room in a home, plus access to shared spaces.
This single bedroom is a repurposed formal dining room, & has an armchair, foot stool, small table and chair, and a view out the window of my private backyard. It's a comfy space for a solo traveler.

The space
My place is close to the Santa Monica Mountains, and equidistance to CLU & CSUCI, & 1/2 hour to Malibu or Point Mugu. Located on a quiet, safe cul-de-sac, the comfy room w/ a view, comes w/ a private backyard & friendly housemates to make you feel right at home. I have lived here for more than 35 years and can point you in almost any direction you want to go, with helpful advice about the area and it's amenities. My place is good for a college student, business traveler or solo adventurer.

Guest access
You will have access to a half bathroom on the same floor as your bedroom, and a full bathroom at the top of the stairs. The private backyard has a 12' by 14' gazebo covered patio with table and chairs. There is a view of the Santa Monica Mountains on the west side of the property, as well as raised organic vegetable garden beds. The large screen TV in the family room may be used by guests. Coffee and tea are provided in the mornings. There is a second fridge in the garage with limited storage space for guests. The kitchen stove is NOT available; however a microwave, toaster, K-pod coffee maker and electric kettle are provided to heat water. A variety of coffee K-pods and teas are available at a self service counter. Anyone using these items is expected to clean up after themselves.

During your stay
I am usually here to welcome you upon your arrival, and to help you get oriented. If I am traveling myself, I have one of my long term tenants who will be acting as co-host. Please feel free to ask for help and I will do what I can to assist. I have lived in Thousand Oaks for more than half my life, and have been active in the community, so just ask. I will likely be able to steer you in the right direction.

Other things to note
The host lives on the property, so if anything is amiss, please inform me so the issue can be mitigated. Also, be advised that common areas are deep cleaned weekly by a cleaning crew.

Neighborhood highlights

My home is in a lovely, quiet cul-de-sac neighborhood, just five houses from a community park with a basketball court and large grassy area for playing sports or flying your kite. Adjacent to the park is a city bus stop. We have a beautiful view of the western end of the Santa Monica Mountains (Mount Boney) from the front of my property.

My ABC's: I am Articulate, Bright, Courteous, Discerning, Energetic, Friendly, Grounded, Hospitable, Interesting, Joyful, Kind, Lucky, Multi-faceted, Neighborly, Optimistic, Peripatetic, Quick-witted, Reliable, Sociable, Trustworthy, Urbane, Vivacious, Warm-hearted, eXperienced, (been there, done that) Young-at-heart, and Zany at times. I have traveled the world and raised four wonderful kids to be self-sufficient, independent, contributing members of society. Since they vacated their bedrooms, that made room for YOU! Five things I can not live without: Family, friends, travel, life-long-learning, and making the world a better place. My motto: "Always leave a place better off than you found it." My little corner of the world: I live about one mile from the western end of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. It's the mountain range that separates Malibu and the Pacific Ocean from the San Fernando Valley, The Conejo Valley, including Thousand Oaks; all the way to the Camarillo Plain. You can hike or ride your mountain bike from my front door, through Sycamore Canyon, all the way to the beach at Sycamore Cove, about 12 miles away. When the kids were young, we used to do it as a family every Spring and enjoy the wild flowers in bloom. We are about equi-distance from Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Without traffic (plan your commute time...) it takes less than an hour to get to either of them. Ventura is about 30 minutes away. LAX is also less than an hour away, depending on the time of day. My home is surrounded by open space, maintained hiking and mountain biking trails, and there are many community parks nearby, as well as shopping, public transportation, and many arts and cultural venues. For me, one of the best things about travel is coming home to my own lovely home. I am so appreciative to be able to live in such a wonderful location, in a safe and diverse community, close to nature and the arts and culture of a major metropolitan area like Los Angeles; yet hear birds outside, instead of traffic.
