A modernised 1890s, feature-filled farmhouse with direct access to the magnificent Back Beach, surf and fishing beach. Peaceful solitude, over 2 km (1.2 miles) to the nearest neighbour, but only 10 minutes' drive to the shops, pub and restaurants of Streaky Bay. Perfect for a couple or family who want to get away to clean air and beautiful seascapes on the only Streaky Bay house with private access to Back Beach.

The space
The house has four bedrooms available for guests (a further bedroom and an office are locked for owners' private use when they visit, which is never while guests are in residence). Bedroom 1 (27 square metres) has a super king bed. Bedroom 2 (18 square metres) has two king single beds. Bedroom 3 (17 square metres) has a queen size bed. Bedroom 4 has two king single beds. Bedrooms 1 and 3 have reverse cycle air-conditioning/heating. Bedrooms 2 and 4 have heating and all bedrooms have ceiling fans. A baby/toddler cot and high-chair are available on request.

The large, recently modernised kitchen has an induction cook top and electric oven, microwave oven, coffee machine, large fridge and dishwasher. The lounge room has satellite television (VAST) and third generation Apple TV. There is Wi-Fi throughout the house. The kitchen and lounge have reverse cycle air-conditioning/heating.

Between the lounge and kitchen is a large dining room with seating in front of a wood fire.

A large laundry has a washing machine, a large freezer and indoor clothes drying line.

Outside, there is a gas barbeque and three covered patios facing in different directions for sun or shade throughout the day. Down a private track from the back door it is a 15 minute walk or a short drive to the beach.

Other things to note
The house is listed in the Eyre Peninsula Heritage Survey and is of some historical interest. All profit from Airbnb stays is currently being reinvested into the improvement and preservation of the property.

Neighborhood highlights

A 15-minute walk or 5 minute drive down a private track behind the house leads to a secluded part of Back Beach surf beach. On the way you might see the resident kangaroos in the sand dunes. There are 5 surf breaks and a good surf-fishing spot (all depending on conditions, of course). At the end of the road that leads to the house are four more surf breaks and more surf fishing spots on several kilometres of pristine ocean beach.

The beach is ideal for long, peaceful walks or watching the sun set. Occasionally the local dolphin pod will swim by or join you if you are sitting in the surf.

Ten minutes' drive from the house is the town of Streaky Bay with shops, baker, restaurants, pub, bank, pharmacy, service stations, hospital and doctor, amongst others. The bay itself is a calm contrast to the Back Beach surf beach and has an enclosed swimming pool part way along its jetty.

Further afield are many other local attractions, including beautifuly white sand Surfers Beach and various surf spots, including the famous Cactus surf breaks, a day trip away.

Note that to access the beach from the property requires climbing down some sand hills. Getting back up requires moderate fitness. Back Beach is more easily accessed from the car park at the end of the public road that leads to the property. The beach usually has waves and rips and, in most places, breaks on a reef. It is usually not suitable for swimming or children paddling but is great for fishing and for surfing for medium to advanced level surfers. At low tide, some rock pools are good for bathing in, especially in Summer when they warm up. For swimming and paddling, the beach at the bay in Streaky Bay is a good option, as is Surfers Beach, about 30 km from the property, which is also good for learning to surf.
