The space
There are extra electric heaters in closets as well as extra linens. Window units are used in the summer for air conditioning. There are a few fans around in closets as well, if you need the extra air flow or noise. A snow shovel and charcoal bag for the grill are in the breeze way near the back door. Ice salt is on the front porch in the purple bucket. We are continuing to make upgrades with decor and overall esthetics as we go.
Large capacity washer and dryer, a new queen sleeper couch set and office with a printer will be coming in the beginning of 2026. We are also working on getting the other half of the duplex on Park Ave ready for guests in 2026. Thank you so much for staying with us! We look forward to continuing to improve your experience with us and are honored to have you as our guests. Welcome to South Bend!
Guest access
The whole house and yard of the LaMonte duplex is available.
Other things to note
No pets and no smoking. The house is across the street from Memorial Hospital. You may occasionally hear a helicopter overhead or an ambulance. Using a noise app and running a fan should drown out the noise just fine. The heater is a boiler system. It occasionally makes a hissing noise or other cracking/popping sounds. This is completely normal. The thermostat is slightly off on the low side. If it's set at 75 it will feel more like 70. Do not let the temp go below 65 degrees.
There is an ironing board and iron next to the stacked washer/dryer unit. There is detergent and dryer sheets for sensitive skin. A vacuum cleaner is stored in the upstairs landing closet and a broom next to the washer/dryer.
Parking is on the street. Feel free to park in front of the Park Ave. side of the house. LaMonte Terrace is a one-way street. Please use the garbage/recycling canasters to the right of the front steps when leaving the front door. If staying for more than a week, trash needs to be out by the road by Thursday morning and recycling is every other Monday morning.
Feel free to use the charcoal grill. There is a lighter on the top shelf in the kitchen cabinet with the plates/bowls and charcoal in the mudroom off the back door. The outer wooden back door locks automatically when closed, so make sure you don’t lock yourself out.
As the weather gets warmer, air-conditioning units will be installed. Please be careful around the heaters and radiators. They do get very warm. There are extra heating units in the 2nd level closet and in a couple of the bedroom closets.
This house is over 100 yrs old. Please be kind to it and treasure it's charm.
Please enjoy your stay! ☺️
