Guest access
Guests can respectfully enjoy both decks and the entire cabin except locked owner cabinets and shed.

Other things to note
-Maximum Occupancy of 4 guests (including children)

-There is no AC or dishwasher

-There is NO SMOKING of any kind allowed, inside or out.

-Like many cabins, there is no air conditioning. We do have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms and living room. However, if you are someone that needs AC, this may not be the right space for you.

-There is no signal in the area (only Verizon) but the WiFi at the cabin is strong. Once you pass through Murphys, phone reception can become spotty. We make calls on our cell through WiFi (enable through your phone’s settings).

-We highly recommend guests jot down driving directions and necessary check-in information ahead of time as phone access (especially AT&T) may be limited once you reach the cabin.

-To ensure the safety of our property, we have (2) two exterior security cameras facing each deck.

-This is a shoeless home; we kindly ask that you remove your shoes at the door. Pro tip- bring slippers to keep those toes warm during winter.

-While the spiral staircase is unique and adds a ton of charm, its steps are small, steep, and narrow. Please use caution and do not let children play on the staircase. Climbing the spiral staircase is required to access both sleeping quarters.

-For your convenience, we have a high chair, pack-n-play, kids' books, toys, and games available when traveling with kids. Before you depart, please return items to their original locations.

-We try our best to keep the wildlife out, including insects, mice, and bears. For this reason, we ask that you do not take food upstairs or in the living room. We also recommend promptly cleaning up dishes and removing all food items when not using them.

-Mountain living comes with extreme conditions that may result in the loss of power (with or without warning) due to fire precautions in the dry months and downed power lines in the winter months. Consider it a part of the adventure! The front door you can find lanterns and headlamps.

-Garbage service is impractical in this location, as it can attack bears; therefore, YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR TAKING ALL TRASH AND RECYCLING WITH. Failure to take the trash to the dumpsite will result in a minimum fee of $50. A disposal station in Avery is where you can drop off items on your way down the mountain.

AVERY DISPOSAL STATION: 4541 Segale Road, Avery CA OPEN FRIDAY-TUESDAY 8 AM TO 4

-We have a propane gas stove and floor grate furnace downstairs that do a great job of heating the cabin. Please use caution and watch children around both the stove and floor grate as both can be extremely hot. Always remember to turn them off when you leave the cabin or have departed from your stay. (From June-October the fireplace is non-operational)

-We do not have an EV charger available. There is an additional $15/night fee for each night of the reservation to plug into the 110V outlet. Charging must be arranged and paid in advance. (Extention cord and adaptors not provided)

-We have our cabin professionally cleaned before each guest arrives..that being said..these are the mountains. An occasional cobweb, spider, insect, or even, very rarely, a cute little mouse may find their way into the property..this is in no way a reflection of our cleanliness and we do not offer a refund for wildlife sightings.

**ANIMAL AWARENESS: The cabin is located in the mountain wilderness and the home to many animals, including bears. For your safety and the safety of the property, DO NOT leave the ground floor or accessible windows and doors open and unlocked, and NEVER leave food out or in your car.

**WINTER PREPAREDNESS: Although there are no guarantees, at 5000 ft we can get a lot of deep heavy snow at High Mountain Haus so please come prepared. You may need tire chains/4wd on Highway 4 to get here. Check CalTrans for up-to-date road conditions. Calaveras County is responsible for plowing the local roads. While we have a contract for a snow removal service to clear the driveway during the winter months, guests may need to shovel snow a path to access the front door safely. Shovels are on-site for guest use and can be found hanging on the shed at the top of the driveway. All part of the mountain experience.

Street parking is not permitted during snowfall and when the plows are running. Our driveway is at a slight incline; although we have a snow removal service and make every attempt to have the driveway plowed prior to your stay, we highly recommend having a 4x4 vehicle or tire chains to access the driveway during winter conditions.

-This is our beloved family vacation home that we’re pleased to share with you! This is not a hotel, and please do not move furniture around or take the furniture outside. We kindly ask that you treat our home with respect and love and help us preserve it and our belongings. Thank you.

We would love to welcome you to our cabin. If you have any questions before booking, please, let us know.
