Welcome to Heron's Cove, a peaceful family getaway on 1.6 private acres along Lake Champlain. A short walk down a private path through the backyard leads to the lake, where complimentary kayaks and life jackets are ready for family adventures. Swim, fish, paddle, or relax by the water while making lasting memories. Just 20 minutes from Plattsburgh and 1½ hours from Montreal and Burlington. Please read "The Space" and "Other Things to Know" before booking.

The space
Built in 1908, Heron's Cove is a charming lakeside cottage full of character, featuring original hardwood floors upstairs, cozy furnishings, and beautiful views of Lake Champlain.

The cottage has retained much of its original charm, including its older kitchen and well-loved floors, giving it the warm, nostalgic feel of a classic family lake camp rather than a modern luxury home.

A short walk down a private path leads to the lake, where you'll find three complimentary kayaks, life jackets, and two kayak/canoe carts to make the trip easier. The cove provides easy access for launching, though you may need to wade into the water a short distance depending on the lake level.

The spacious, fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare meals, whether you're cooking breakfast before a day on the lake or enjoying dinner with family. Local restaurants and a Stewart's Shop are just 3–5 miles away, and a full grocery store is about 15 minutes from the cottage.

Stay connected with complimentary Wi-Fi and a Smart TV so you can log into your favorite streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, and more.

Dogs are welcome! We provide food and water bowls, and you'll find blankets above the washer and dryer if your furry friend would like to relax on the furniture.

For outdoor adventures, Point Au Roche State Park is just 7.5 miles away and offers scenic hiking, biking, cross-country skiing, a sandy beach, picnic areas, and grills, making it a favorite destination in every season.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to the whole house except the garage and supply closet.

Other things to note
### Other Things to Know

**Water:**
Heron's Cove is on a private well, which is common for homes along Lake Champlain. Depending on the time of year, you may notice a slight sulfur (egg-like) smell in the water. We regularly maintain our water softener by adding salt and have recently installed a top-of-the-line filtration system to minimize the odor. While the smell can occasionally be noticeable, **the water is safe for bathing, cooking, and washing**. For drinking water, we've installed a reverse osmosis filtration system with a dedicated faucet next to the kitchen sink, providing clean, great-tasting drinking water.

**Water Pressure:**
Because the home is on a well system, we recommend **not running the washing machine or dishwasher while someone is showering, as this can reduce water pressure.

**Air Conditioning:**
Heron's Cove has a newly installed HVAC system that keeps the cottage comfortable throughout most of the home. Because of the age and layout of the cottage, the two main bedrooms upstairs can still become warm on especially hot summer days. To help keep you comfortable, we provide fans in each bedroom, and the cool lake breeze often helps the house cool down quickly in the evenings.

**Firewood:**
You're welcome to use any leftover firewood from previous guests. If you need more, bundles are available at Stewart's Shop. You'll also find several nearby neighbors who sell firewood on the honor system using roadside cash boxes.

**Lake Access:**
A private path on the left side of the backyard leads down to Lake Champlain. Water levels vary throughout the season, so depending on the time of year, the lake may be very high or quite low. We highly recommend bringing water shoes, as you'll likely be wading over natural stones to enter the water. The changing lake levels are part of the unique Lake Champlain experience and make every visit a little different!

**House Rules & Checkout Expectations**

Our house rules help us keep Heron's Cove clean, comfortable, and ready for every guest. Additional cleaning fees may apply if these guidelines aren't followed.

**During Your Stay**

* If you're bringing your furry friend, please sweep or vacuum pet hair at least once during shorter stays and twice during longer stays.
* Please pick up after your pet while enjoying the yard.
* Rinse the kayaks, paddles, and life jackets before returning them to the rack after each use.

We recently bought this home from my mother, Carrie. She has established a well run and cozy AirBNB and it is our goal to keep it going. This is also my childhood home with lots of fond memories. I'm exciting to keep it in the family that allows our children to enjoy the world at a slower pace. I hope you enjoy and feel right at home.
