The perfect holiday house in Aegiali, Amorgos for people who enjoy the pleasure of simple, traditional accommodation with gorgeous views of mountains and sea. It is on the edge of Langada, a charming traffic free village with shops and cafes. It was restored for the owner by local craftsmen and won a preservation award from the Amorgos society of Athens. The modern bathroom is discreetly separated from the historic house. Minimum August booking two weeks

The space
You can enjoy an historic whitewashed house, with stone arches spanning two of its rooms to support the wooden ceilings. The spacious living room contains two double beds in recesses, a dining table, antique sofa and storage for clothes, as well as many books in English, French and Dutch. A second bedroom, at a lower level has two single beds that can be put together. The bakehouse has been converted into a third bedroom. All the rooms open to the walled garden with a raised terrace in the centre, and views across a gorge to the mountains of Naxos and the sea.

Guest access
The whole house and garden are for the exclusive use of guests. It offers shady places under a pine tree and a grape vine. It is reached by a walk of less than ten minutes along pedestrian streets and down steps from the parking place and the village square. Many of our guests are regular visitors. One family has come every summer for the last thirty-five years. It is necessary to take a taxi from the harbour on arrival, but there are regular buses during the summer and numerous rental cars available.

Other things to note
Amorgos is further from Athens than most of the crowded touristy islands in the Cyclades. It is seven hours from Piraeus to the port of Aegiali with three ferries a week and more in the high season. Ferries also go to Katapola at the other end of the island on different days. From there you can take a taxi to Langada. Be sure to tell Carolina your arrival plans. If necessary she can book you a taxi,
Parents need to take care that toddlers don't fall off terrace.

Minimum length of stay one week (two weeks in August).

Neighborhood highlights

Langada an old mountain village, one of five served by the Port of Aegiali. There are several excellent restaurants with outdoor tables, as well as small general stores. You will find the people friendly and welcoming. The main square is the scene of occasional village festivals with music and dancing. It is entirely free of vehicular traffic. On August 15 the festival of the Panagia (assumption of the Virgin Mary) attracts hundreds of visitors. It includes a communal feast and dancing in the evenings, If you come for this you must book early on the ferry, or will not be able to travel.

I am a college professor (music), musician (mostly jazz) and family guy. I have 4 wonderful sons, but if I'm Airbnb-ing it I'm probably looking for a getaway with by beautiful wife of 20 years. I have travelled extensively as a musician, and personally - I used to run a small tour company that took groups to European destinations.
