VILLA MATILDE-VOLCANO VIEW

FreyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
My family and I loved this place. The location was right next to one of the blue domes and it was very easily accessible. The check-in process was very easy and not stressful. We were picked up from the airport, provided nice transportation, and someone was there to carry our luggages and help us settle in. The location was also close to very nice restaurants and shops that were wonderful. The only caveat to this location is the it is right in front of a prime picture location, and there was always people lined up outside our place to take pictures with the view. But besides this, this was a wonderful place and we will definitely stay here again.

AROMA CAVAS Suite with caldera view

BijanRating, 5 stars6 months ago
I can’t say enough about Nikos. He is by far the best host we ever had. From day one he was full of info about where to go, what to do and of course the nice restaurants. The place is very nice and clean. The pool is definitely a plus but the weather was a bit cold for swimming. Lastly the airport is a 10-minute ride away. Nikos please is a must if you are visiting Santorini. Thanks for everything and the going away present🙏

Oias Local Cave Houses

BiswajitRating, 5 stars20 months ago
We liked the place very much. Location wise this is one of the best. All the attractive sites are just walkable. The place is very neat and clean. The place had enough space for our team of 6 people and a baby. Most importantly the Sunrise and Sunset can be viewed from just ouside of the main door, which is the USP of this place. However since this is a cave house and the pathway of the entrance is bumpy it is not highly recomended to any physically challenged or elderly people especially who is using wheel chair.

D' amigos Superior Cave House with outdoor hottub

JaewanRating, 5 stars2 days ago
The host Kostas family was incredibly friendly all the time. They served breakfast every morning which our family loved to enjoy it. Also, they allowed us for the early check-in and even gave us free lunch to share the Easter holiday. Our family told me that it was the best stay ever. The pool was truly enjoyable for my kids, and the view from the house was more than beautiful. The house was full of amenities, also with free snacks and drinks. I will definitely visit again this house again if I have one more chance to visit Santorini. 숙소가 4인 가족이 머물기에 너무나도 훌륭했습니다. 주인분도 너무나 좋으세요 :)

BEAUTIFUL PRIVATE VILLA WITH STUNNISH CALDERA VIEW

DmitryRating, 5 stars1 week ago
It was one of the best locations we ever stayed at. Unbelievable picture-like views, super-friendly hosts that greeted us as family members, spacious place, enough room for all 7 of us. Plus great family history of the house. The only regret we had was that we stayed only for one night. Would love to come back! EPHKHARISTO!!

Olia Drop, one bedroom, jacuzzi, amazing view

AnnikaRating, 5 stars6 months ago
What an absolutely stunning stay! This location is about a 25 minute walk from downtown Fira and right along the main path to Oia, which made it a great landing spot for everything we wanted to do in our weekend in Santorini (and quieter/more peaceful than staying in a busier area would have been). Great communication from the host including arranging transportation to and from airport, daily cleaning service, local recommendations and tips, and postcard views (+sunrise and sunset!) from the patio every day. We had the best time.

Villa Ersa @home by the sea

AlbertRating, 5 stars5 months ago
Beatrice welcomed us right at the house after she had already organized our rental car. Throughout the stay, she was extremely nice and helpful with other good tips. The accommodation is new, very tastefully decorated, well equipped, absolutely quiet, although only 5 minutes by car from the airport and wonderfully located about 100 m from the beach. The travel time (last week of October) was perfect, as pleasant temperatures, only a few tourists, but most local and cultural events still available. In short: highly recommended!

I would recommend this place and I am sure one day we will return. Thank you!

Your guide to Santorini

All About Santorini

Santorini is an 11-mile-long island in the Aegean Sea, southeast of mainland Greece, and is the largest among a group of small, volcanic islands called the Cyclades. Officially known as Thira (Thera, in ancient Greek), Santorini has been inhabited since the Bronze Age. Its 20 or so villages exist atop one of the largest calderas — volcanic craters — in the world; the eruptions throughout its history helped create the dramatic black-sand beaches across its coastline.

Evidence of Santorini’s prehistoric past is on display at the underground Akrotiri archaeological site, where you can see the intricacies of the ancient civilizations who developed multi-floored buildings and drainage systems. The ruins seen today are the result of a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BCE that covered the village in lava and preserved elaborate wall paintings, dwellings, and pottery.

Santorini’s culture is also embodied in its food and drink. Wineries stretch across the countryside, where you can try the island’s native Assyrtiko white wine. Aromas from traditionally prepared coffee fill the cobble-stone streets, brewed with Greece’s specialty briki pot and enjoyed as a social activity. Local dishes prepared with Santorini’s local white eggplant and chlorotyri goat’s-milk cheese make for a dining experience you may not find anywhere else in the world, thanks to the island’s rich volcanic soil and distinct farming.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Santorini

You will find accommodations, including Santorini villas and rural retreats, across the island. During Santorini’s comfortable, warm spring months you can make the 6-mile hike from Fira to the village of Oia and ruins of its 15th-century castle while passing blooming wildflowers like lupins and corn poppies along the way. Mild weather in the fall brings the height of the grape harvest, making it an ideal season for trying one of the nearly 20 wineries scattered across the island.

Take advantage of the hot summer months by visiting some of Santorini’s swim-friendly beaches like Perissa or Kamari Beach. The island also hosts the Santorini Jazz Festival in July and the Ifestia (volcano) Festival in August, featuring fireworks and live music shows. During the colder months, you can take a wintertime dip in the thermal hot springs on Santorini’s smaller, uninhabited island, Palea Kameni.

Top things to do in Santorini

Ancient Thera

Some of Greece’s ancient history is on display atop the mountain of Mesa Vouno, accessible by a 4.5-mile hike or a drive to the ancient city of Thera, named for the volcano that famously erupted near it thousands of years ago. Ancient Thera sits at more than 1,000 feet above sea level; once you reach the peak, you will have panoramic views of the Aegean Sea while you stand among ancient ruins, founded in the 9th century B.C.E. and inhabited until 726 A.D.

Vlychada Beach

You can experience one of Santorini’s famous black-sand beaches at Vlychada. This swim-friendly beach on the southern coast is surrounded by towering cliffs. The best time to visit Vlychada Beach is later in the day for a beachside picnic and sunset.

Megalochori

Megalochori is a village on the southwestern coast of Santorini whose white-washed walls and bell towers tower over cobblestone streets as a former defense against pirates. The village is surrounded by Santorini’s wine country, making it a great place to try some of the island’s most-loved wines like the sweet, amber-colored Vinsanto and the crisp white Assyrtiko. Megalochori also hosts classical Greek music concerts throughout the year.
