Harriet's hideaway is a shepherds hut with a wood-fired hot tub, located perfectly between Exmoor and Dartmoor. With sweeping views, the hideaway is accessed off our private lane and set in its own private plot with parking and a garden. A perfect retreat for couples or for a couple friends to 'escape the rat race' and take a break. Light a fire and get lazy, chill out in the wood-fired outdoor hot tub, star-gaze at the incredible night skies, or just relax and take in the peaceful surroundings.
The space
Follow us on socials, Thorndon Farm Holidays for more videos and pictures. A unique and bespoke Shepherds Hut, built to our chosen specification in 2024. Open plan living and sleeping area; with a king-size bed, seating area and an equipped kitchen including hobs, microwave and fridge freezer. The bathroom has a full size shower. The hut has underfloor heating throughout and double doors opening out with spectacular views as far as Dartmoor. Outdoors there is a table and two chairs for dining, two relaxed chairs and a wood fired hot tub; all with beautiful undisturbed views towards Dartmoor.
Guest access
We feel it's important guests are aware prior to booking that we do live in a rural area, thus we don't have any shops or suchlike within a few miles. The village of Witheridge nearby has 2 convenience style shops, these are 2.7 miles from the shepherds hut. The nearest large supermarket is just over 9 miles away. The nearest pub is 2.7 miles, it's a good pub with very good food and they also offer a takeaway menu. Resultedly this location is perfect for the ultimate break, it's beautiful, peaceful and private; and the views are great too.
The hut is situated in a corner plot of a larger field. The plot historically was a vegetable plot until the 1980's, when it fell into disuse and later became a pheasant plot. Harriet's Hideaway has it's own driveway and private garden. The larger field the plot was once part of is only used for hay making in the summer months.
The hut has a key safe for self check in, however we are on hand when needed.
Other things to note
Dogs are only allowed if prior agreed with the host. the space is only suitable for one dog maximum. There is a fee of £30 for bringing a dog, per stay.
We also offer the following, these must be booked 48 hours before check in:
Devon Cream Tea box £10 - Two homemade scones, served with strawberry jam and clotted cream, two chocolate brownies.
S'mores Making box £8 - Milk chocolate digestives, Cadbury dairy milk, marshmallows and skewers. Perfect to use by the fire pit.
Earlier check in or late check out is £10 per hour beyond set times, on agreement with the host. These requests cannot always be accepted, depending on availability ✨

PLEASE NOTE GUESTS ARE UNABLE TO CHARGE EV CARS AT HARRIET'S HIDEAWAY, it runs on a lower power output so causes the power to trip. The nearest EV point is at West Middleewick Farm (4 miles) where there is also a cafe to enjoy whilst you recharge. We will have our own EV point installed on the farm (2 mins walk from the Hideaway) in Spring 2026.

We are the fourth generation in our family here at the farm, along with our four children who will hopefully go on to become the fifth generation. We love country living and all it involves!
