Guest access
GETTING IN:
Smart keyless entry with your personal 4-digit code. Works on the main building entrance and your apartment door. Enter code to unlock, press the key symbol to lock. Your code arrives 24 hours before check-in.
YOUR SPACE:
Private third-floor apartment accessed via shared colonial-era staircase (great leg workout, terrible for overpacking). The same staircase continues to the shared rooftop terrace—the best sunset spot in Old San Juan.
BOOK THE WHOLE MANSION:
Traveling with 10-15 people? You can rent all four floors of El Morro Mansion for complete takeover. Perfect for bachelorette parties, milestone birthdays, friend reunions, or family gatherings. Message us for whole-building rates.
PARKING:
Street parking only (this is 500-year-old Old San Juan—no driveways). Closest parking garage: Felisa Rincón de Gautier, 6-minute walk. Pro tip: Uber/taxi from the airport is $30-40 and way easier than navigating these cobblestone streets.
Other things to note
THE REAL TALK:
NOISE LEVEL: You're at 9 Calle Mercado in the heart of Old San Juan's bar district. Thursday through Sunday, expect live music, street performers, and party energy until midnight-2 AM. There's a popular bar downstairs. If you need silence to sleep, book elsewhere. If you want to be where the action is, this is it.
We provide earplugs and blackout sleep masks for all guests.
STAIRS: Third floor, no elevator. That's 45 steps. If you have mobility issues or heavy luggage, factor this in.
WHAT MAKES THIS WORK: The building is from 1910 with stone walls 12-18 inches thick. Modern storm doors on all exterior openings. You'll hear street life, but it's not like sleeping in a nightclub. Close the doors and windows, you're good.
BEST FOR:
- Groups of friends (ages 25-45)
- Couples celebrating something
- Digital nomads who work during the day, explore at night
- Cruise ship passengers extending their stay
- Anyone who wants authentic Old San Juan, not sanitized resort vibes
NOT IDEAL FOR:
- Families with kids under 12
- Anyone expecting resort-level quiet
- Light sleepers without earplugs
- People who hate stairs
WEATHER: Puerto Rico is tropical. That means humid and warm year-round. AC is in every bedroom and living room. Hurricane season is June-November but El Morro Mansion has survived since 1910—you'll be fine.
