EDGE OF THE WATERS — YOUR OWN COAST PLACE
Set up camp just feet from the water in a canal-front site. Bring your RV, van, car-camping setup or tent (7-day limit for tent camping).
REALLY YOUR OWN: The whole site is private: your own screened porch, deck, grill and dock right on the canal.
OPEN-AIR BATH: Toilet, sink & hot shower—privacy louvers, breeze & stars above.
RV: 20/30/50A, water & septic. Cover clearance 11½' at edge; taller rigs may fit depending on profile. Message us if close.
The space
A Campsite, Yes — But More Than a Campsite
There's way more beyond your campsite. Canal City gives you private neighborhood beach access, two boat ramps, and a fishing area just a few lots away with access to deeper water on the Intracoastal.
Back at the site, fish right from your own dock. We provide a crab trap, minnow trap and some other fishing gear; bring your own rods, reels and tackle.
MORE TO DO ON BOLIVAR:
BIRDS: You're just 7 miles from the Houston Audubon High Island sanctuaries, one of the country's great spring migration birding destinations. Birding is how we found Canal City and our little piece of the Texas Coast, and I'm happy to share tips for beginners or experts exploring Bolivar. With 27 miles of beaches, marshes and High Island's unique coastal habitat, you never know what might turn up in any season.
A NEW FISHING EXPERIENCE: If you've never fished from a kayak, it's a great way to experience the bay—you are right there with the water and nature. I can recommend a great local kayak fishing guide. Sergio supplies the kayak and fishing gear and can get you onto water larger boats can't reach.

Neighborhood highlights
Canal City is one of Bolivar's older neighborhoods, first developed in the late 1950s as a community of beach cabins. Hurricane Ike washed away most of those old family places, but over the years the neighborhood has slowly come back to life.
Today it's a quiet little waterfront community away from the busier parts of the peninsula. The streets don't go through—they all end at the Intracoastal—so there's very little passing traffic. Water is never far away, and the neighborhood feels tucked away.

We have been RVers since 2012 and birders since probably 2017. In 2023 we were birding at High Island and found Canal City. We knew we wanted a spot there: our RV on the water, fishing out the back door, world-class birding a few miles away, and the beach down the street.
I'm a Lutheran pastor. Jennifer is a software developer and nature photographer, particularly birds. We have two teen boys.
