This lake house sits on a point of Ward Lake and is surrounded by large pine trees, is nestled on a private road, and boasts a dock, making it easy to use the included kayaks, paddle boat, catch fish, use the swimming platform, or go swimming directly from the property. After fun-filled days, unwind on the patio, relax by the fire pit, or go soak in the soaking tub.
The space
Loons Nest Retreat (previously Eagle Pines Point) is perfect for multiple families and is just a short 90-minute drive from the Twin Cities. Ward lake is a 100-acre lake that has a public boat launch, with great water quality, excellent fishing right off the dock and full recreational use.
You will have the entire lake home to yourself including all the amenities it has to offer. The lake home is set on a half an acre of wooded land, come enjoy this outdoor lover’s haven located on a quiet dead-end road.
Loons Nest Retreat is unique for lakefront property due to being on a private dead-end road, being able to enjoy level lakefront property that sits on a point, catch fish right off the dock or jump off the private swim platform. The water's edge is just a short 35-90 feet from the house depending on where you are at on the property. Just bring food and you don't need to leave with all the amenities right here.
Get on your hiking shoes and blaze the Ice Age Trail (1000 miles of hiking, non-motorized trail) within a couple miles of the property. McKenzie segment, Straight River segment.
Enjoy the expansive lake view throughout the house that’s tastefully decorated. Relax during winter evenings in front of the wood burning fireplace after a day of snow shoeing, ice fishing or snowmobiling.
Enjoy the backyard and level lakefront where you can use the 30 ft private (not shared) dock. Pick your fun activity where your kids can play, fish, swim, use the 18 ft. floating mat, swimming platform (in deeper water), Swimway water floaties, use 5 kayaks (1 of the 5 is specifically a kids kayak - sit on, weight less than 100lbs) or paddle boat using over 200 feet of shoreline.
Bring your own boat (or rent one from local outfitter and they will deliver) as there's a public boat launch a couple blocks from Loons Nest Retreat . Tie your boat up to the private dock. Ensure you follow Wisconsin boating regulations to help minimize the spread of invasive species and clean boat before and after using the lake. Ward lake is a great fishing lake with walleye (stocked every 2 years from DNR), bass, crappies, northern, pike, and sun fish. We catch walleye's each year off our dock!
Spend your summer nights stargazing or roasting S'mores at the lake-side fire pit. Enjoy the hammock area meant for relaxing.
During the cold winter months enjoy snowshoeing, ice fishing, snowmobile, or cross-country ski right from the property. Downhill ski or snowtube from 3 different resorts within 30 minutes. On a rainy day, there's several DVD's, Ms. Pacman Partycade arcade console that has 12 games for the family, Sega gaming system, foosball coffee table, giant Connect 4 and puzzles to keep you entertained. "Alexa" Echo Dot is installed in kitchen and living room for additional guest enjoyment. Ice fishing is only a few steps away from the house.
5-minute drive to Straight Lake State Park, a short drive from popular Interstate state park. Close to 5 state parks. Wild Mountain Recreation Area, Troll Hagen, zip lining, Fawn-Doe-Rosa Wildlife Education Park, St. Croix Casino, Franconia sculpture park, wineries, several golf courses and antique shops all nearby.

Bring up to 2 fury friend (dogs) along, up to 50lbs each. No aggressive breeds. Well behaved dogs, only. Guests are responsible for cleaning up after pet. Please bring your pet’s bedding as they are not permitted on the furniture or bedding. We supply an extra set of dog bowls, and waste bags.

Upstairs: Master Bedroom: King and Twin| Bedroom 2: Queen | 1st level: Bedroom 3: Queen | Bedroom 4: King and Twin. Family Room: Sofabed (queen). Pack and play, toddler cot, 2 adult size camping cots provided for additional sleeping arrangements.
OUTDOOR LIVING: Spacious deck, Weber gas grill, charcoal grill, screened in gazebo on the waters edge, private 30 ft. dock (end of dock is about 6 ft deep, can jump off dock but is not suitable to dive from) 5 kayaks, 1 of the kayaks is specifically a youth kayak, paddle boat, swimming platform in deeper waters - 20+ ft. deep (is OK to dive from), 18 ft swim floating mat for hours of fun for kids and adults. Adult inflatable lounger floats. (Dock and water boats are typically not available from Oct.-April. Dependent on the weather and seasons. (Inquire if they are available.)
INDOOR LIVING: Smart TV's in all bedrooms w/ Disney Plus, log into your own streaming apps to watch other items. DVDs, puzzles, ceiling fans, wood-burning fireplace, (bring your own firewood). Each bedroom has USB ports. Living room also has USB lamps. High efficiency AC units. There is a laundry room available for use during your stay and an extra refrigerator in the laundry room for extra food and drinks.
KITCHEN: Fully equipped w/ cooking basics, refrigerator, microwave, stove/oven, drip coffee maker, crock pot, griddle, milk shake maker, popcorn maker, electric roasting pan, toddler chair, convection (oven setting), extra USB ports, Echo Dot Alexa installed for music. Extra full size refrigerator in laundry room.
GENERAL: Free Wi-Fi, towels & linens, cleaning essentials, high-speed fiberoptic internet, WFH friendly. Washer and dryer available.
Guests are responsible for bringing their own beach towels, coffee, food and beverages and personal toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, etc.)

Maximum occupancy: 10. Infants and children under 2 do not count towards total guest count. Maximum occupancy for children 2 and under is 2 when total guest count is 10 guests. Maximum occupancy is 10 in total at any point in time on the property per county regulations.
SECURITY CAMERA INFORMATION:
- Your safety matters. This property features 2 exterior security camera located on the front of the house that looks towards the driveway and garage and 1 camera in the back of the house looking out towards the backyard and lake.
They do not look into interior spaces and are used only for security and liability purposes.
NEIGHBORS: Please be respectful of the neighbors, observe quiet hours between 10pm-7am, and adhere to property line markers. This ensures we can continue to operate our rental for others to enjoy.
Guest access
Loons Nest Retreat Lake home sits on a 1/2 acre of land. There are property markers on the property. Please adhere to those markers as we do have neighbors on either side.
Guests have the entire house to themselves. There are 2 closets inside that are locked for owner and cleaning company supplies. There is a garage that is also locked for guest safety.
Other things to note
Ward lake is an approx. 100-acre lake that does have a public boat access. While the lake is a full recreational lake noise travels across water easily. You may hear some water activities from families playing in the water, primarily in the summertime on the weekends.
Do not leave any food outside or on grill. Clean grill immediately after use to not attract animals. There are animals at the lake home since it's in woods with water surrounding it. Take appropriate safety precautions. This is more their home then ours.
There are 2 high efficiency window air conditioners for summer months to keep the entire house nice and cool.
THINGS TO BRING: Sunscreen, toiletries, shampoo, conditioner, bug spray, food, beverages, coffee, seasonings and condiments. (Public health in Polk County does not allow shared condiments, seasoning or shared containers.) Beach towels for swimming, do not use indoor cabin towels.
WHAT IS OFFERED: individual salt and pepper packets. (Public health prevents any shared communal kitchen food/liquid items.) hand towels, wash cloths, 11 bath towels (1 per person +1), bedding and linens, hand soap, dish soap, 5 laundry pods, toilet paper (4 double rolls per bathroom), paper towel (1 double roll) and garbage bags. Extra soaps can be found underneath sinks. We offer STARTER PACKS of these supplies, for longer stays you may need to pick up more. Complimentary washer and dryer is available to launder items as needed.
WINTER/SNOW: The private road and our driveway does get plowed if there is 3 or more inches of snow. Because this is a lake home in the woods, that is not our primary home, guests are responsible for shoveling the area from the driveway to the lake home during the winter. There are shovels and salt provided.
