IMPORTANT: roadworks elsewhere can occasionally cause additional traffic to pass the flat during peak times until September, but it is lovely and quiet here during the night.
Cathedral, castle or Oriental museum? Durham’s world heritage sites are just a short drive or bus ride away. Kitchenette, washer/drier, fast wi-fi, Netflix etc, car parking. Close to walks through woodland (5 minutes away), a trip into Durham (4 miles) or Newcastle (20 miles). Pets welcome. Supermarket 5 mins walk away.
The space
Come through your own front door to the kitchenette (hob, microwave, mini-oven, kettle, washer/drier, fridge etc). There will be tea and coffee for you, with basic crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. Straight ahead is an area with hanging space, a table and chairs for dining or working and which could also be used as a place where your pet could sleep or where a child's cot/bed could be housed (bring your own cot, bed or pet mat); we have an additional small single bed in this room for an older child or an extra guest (although it is tight for an adult - see photograph), but you'll need to ask us for it and it does make things cramped (guests occasionally comment that the place is smaller than the photographs when they ask for the extra bed). Turn right and you'll find the main bedroom, with double bed and large-screen TV with online streaming services such as Netflix. Off the main bedroom is your own private bathroom, with thermostatic rain shower and separate hand shower, full size bath, toilet and basin. You'll find soap, towels and shampoo there too.
Guest access
There's a dedicated free car parking space here for you and you can leave your car here - we're close to a good direct bus service into Durham and Newcastle or use the park and ride or city centre car parks.
EVs: We can let you carry out a full Type 2 charge FREE (7kW), but you will need to let us know what your EV is IN ADVANCE so that we can set the smart charge point up and give you special instructions about where to park to use it.
Other things to note
There are significant roadworks on the A690 at the moment and traffic is using the road outside the flat as a diversion. This means that traffic can cause disturbance during the day, but this stops overnight and the flat is quiet then.
While we welcome dogs, we prefer them not to climb on (or in) the bed and we don’t allow pets to be left alone in the flat. We have all hard floors, so do bring a basket or rug for your pet. The garden is relatively secure for dogs to play freely , but escape is possible over the raised gravel bed near the flat window! We have a dog of our own who plays in the garden, so please don't send your dog out on their own.
Let us know in advance and we will allow Type 2 EV charging at 7kW or with your "granny charger" at 2.8kW as part of your fee. If you'd like to use the 7kW, you’ll need to tell us what type of car you have so that we can set the Smart charger up and let you know where to park (the charging point parking space is still on the drive). If you want to plug in your "granny charger", you'll need to agree to charge your car between 23:30 and 05:30.
We power the flat as far as we can by sustainable solar power.
