Welcome to Crow’s Nest!

This apartment steps one away from the busy life and onto the Vermont Homestead. Allow the chirping birds, whispers of the wind, and rain song drift you into a quiet and calm mind, body & spirit.

In October 2011, Josh and Misse stepped onto this land where the origin of the Dog River watershed meets the Eastern slope of the Northfield Mountain Range. The growth over the many years has been a slow & organic labor of love.  Josh grew up on a dairy farm in PA, where his grandmother hosted many people from around the world on her farm B & B. Misse has a long history of hospitality and a love affair with growing and cooking food and of course educating all ages. Through both of our passions for travel to rustic, off the beaten path adventures, we wanted to share our day to day adventure here at Drift Farmstead with guests from all around.

In 2012 Josh renovated the existing barn and created a spacious and cozy farm stay apartment. Each detail in the build process was well thought out and intentional. Wood milled from the land is a part of the apartment, from the bed frame, to end tables, to the kitchen table.

We are psyched to have you join us at Drift Farmstead! We are grateful to the Vermont Abenaki for thousands of years of stewarding this land we walk. We are honored to be the next family to support and cherish the land beneath our feet and deep in our hearts.

                                                   Warm Wishes for Your Getaway,

Josh, Misse, Haven, Rowan Axelrod

Neighborhood highlights

Nestled in the mountains on the eastern side of the Northfield range, my wife Misse, sons, Haven and Rowan, and I, live on 'Drift Farmstead', a small sustainable farm outside of Roxbury, Vermont. Over the years, I have converted the barn into my Studio, Gallery and Farm Store, and welcome you to explore the space and farm. Misse grows organic, nutrient-dense foods, in greenhouses and plots of earth and beyond. The Farm Store is open every day and is stocked full of frozen meats, wood-fired pizza baked on the farm, fresh frozen super-food juice, berries, greens, milk, yogurt, eggs, cheese, maple syrup, honey, granola, and more!

We also have another Farm Stay on our property so feel free to bring friends and book both of our places! Check out "Off Grid Secluded Cabin on 37 Acre Farm" listed on airbnb.

The Confluence Trail loops around our property, through a healthy forest and down to the Dog River, amongst boulders and falling water. The trail from Crows Nest and back is just about ¾ mile.
Explore, but leave no trace.

Wifi is available in Crows Nest throughout the space.

If you'd like to venture off-property, the options are endless... Hiking, biking, paddling, skiing, and exploring options are available in any direction. Sugarbush and Mad River Ski Areas are only 25-minute drives, for some prime skiing or snowboarding. Blueberry Lake and Warren Falls offer exceptional summer refreshment. Lincoln Peak, Hunger Mountain, and Sunset Rocks are some of my near-to-us favorite hikes. Good Measure Brewing, Bent Hill, and Lawson's are great first brewery stops, or just stop into Randy's at Roxbury General Store or the East Warren Store, to stock up on regional cans or wine and head back to Crows Nest. We would love to explore options with you further!

My work: Film Photographer
Speaks English and Spanish
For the past 20 years, I've sold my film photography and hand-crafted frames across the country at Fine Art Festivals and Galleries. Returning to our small farm, nestled in the mountains in Central Vermont, where we share land with 4 legged's of all sizes and grow enough food for 20 families, is my foundation, my place of peace and restoration.
