Part of a wonderful old thatched cottage, lovingly converted into a cosy, holiday home for couples or singles. It’s perfectly equipped with everything you need for your time away. Nestled in the Chalke Valley, near Salisbury this peaceful AONB is a great destination for walkers, nature lovers and those searching for peace and quiet. Sightseers can also look forward to visiting Salisbury Cathedral, Stonehenge, the New Forest and charming Gold (Hovis) Hill, all are just a short drive away.
The space
This cute thatched cottage in the popular Chalke Valley consists of a beautiful little kitchen fully fitted with Smeg oven and hob, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso machine and everything else you could need to create lovely meals, alongside a dining area just for two. There is also a washing machine inside a useful utility cupboard.
The small snug area has a warming Everhot stove and is a comfortable space to curl up with a good book. There is also a pretty little sitting room with Smart TV. Some puzzles, books and other rainy day activities are provided.
An oak staircase leads up to your dual aspect bedroom which has views over the garden and field opposite. There is a comfortable double bed, small wardrobe and chest of drawers. The en-suite bathroom consists of a luxurious freestanding bath, basin and WC.
The property is part of the main house, but completely private and has a separate front door.
You will have sole use of the front garden during your stay, there is a bistro table and chairs creating a lovely setting for your morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. There is a lawned area for you and your dog to enjoy.
Guest access
You will have access to the whole holiday cottage. There is one car parking space for your sole use.
Other things to note
One well behaved dog is welcome to stay free of charge (possibly two small dogs, please enquire before booking) but please follow the house rules regarding dogs. We have a large friendly dog living in the main house, however he will not come into contact with guests or their dogs (unless you want him to!)
Sorry no cats due to allergies.
As the bedroom and bathroom are upstairs and there are steps down to access the garden and cottage, sadly Cleeve Byre is not suitable for people with mobility issues.

Neighborhood highlights
The cottage is situated in Broadchalke, a very popular, peaceful little village between Salisbury in South Wiltshire and Shaftesbury in Dorset. The Chalke Valley is situated in the Cranborne Chase, an area of hills, valleys and chalk streams, famed for being an International Dark Sky Reserve. It is a quiet and restful place for a break away. Leave your car and explore the old ox droves and pathways which link the villages through the valley. Don’t forget your walking boots.
We are lucky to have a great dog-friendly pub in the village, within a short walk of Cleeve Byre and also an award winning shop with cafe where you can stock up on supplies during your stay and pop in for a coffee and cake or lunch while you’re there. On summer mornings what could be nicer than a stroll across the meadow to buy yourself some breakfast goodies?
*Please note that the village shop closes at 5 o’clock on weekdays, 1 o’clock on Saturdays and is closed on Sundays. The nearest supermarket is in Salisbury.*
There are several other pubs in the surrounding villages, just a short drive away, all serving great food to cater for every taste.
Broad Chalke is ideally situated for visits to Southampton, Bath, also the Dorset coastline which are all around an hour away.
Nearby is Salisbury racecourse and Gurston Down Hillclimb which takes place on occasional weekends during the summer.
