Welcome to the Carriage House at Chez Serendip, a private 1928 retreat nestled in the redwoods of Scotts Valley. Lovingly restored with original woodwork, curated antiques, and forest views, this two bedroom home offers a peaceful place to rest, create, and reconnect with nature. Set on a six acre sanctuary, the Carriage House is fully private while quietly connected to the land’s creative and natural rhythm.
The space
The Carriage House is a spacious, light-filled two bedroom home, approximately 1,300 square feet, located on the upper level of a historic early-20th-century home. The space was thoughtfully restored to preserve its original character while offering comfort, warmth, and ease.
Inside, the home includes a historic salon and formal dining room ideal for shared meals, games, or slow evenings. A cozy living room opens into a full kitchen stocked for everyday cooking and gathering. Original woodwork, curated antiques, books by local authors, art supplies, and board games add to the home’s creative and timeless feel.
The primary bedroom features a king bed, a writing desk, and private access to the large sun deck. The second bedroom offers a queen bed and garden views through original glass pane windows. The bathroom is shared between the two rooms.
Outdoor spaces include a large sun deck with dining and lounge seating for up to ten, a covered porch with rocking chairs, and semi private gardens with forest paths to wander. The setting is quiet, green, and deeply connected to the surrounding redwoods.
Guest access
Guests have private access to the entire upstairs Carriage House, including the living room, salon, formal dining room, full kitchen, bathroom, both bedrooms, the covered porch, and the large sun deck. These areas are exclusively yours during your stay.
Accessible parking is provided near the house. The laundry room is available for guest use. The downstairs suite is a private residence for the on site groundskeeper and is not part of the guest space.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens and open outdoor areas of the property unless a space has been reserved for a private event. Certain areas are restricted for safety and operations, including the barns, sheds, pool area, campground, and equestrian grounds.
Hosts are available throughout your stay and happy to support you as needed.

Chez Serendip is more than a place to stay. It is a living sanctuary where creativity, nature, and daily life gently coexist across six acres of redwoods, gardens, and historic spaces. Guests often describe their time here as restorative, inspiring, and quietly meaningful.
Your stay in the Carriage House is fully private. At the same time, the land itself has a soft, low-key rhythm of life. You may occasionally notice a resident artist on a walk, distant music drifting through the trees, or a small wellness or creative session happening elsewhere on the property. These moments are always low-volume and thoughtfully held to preserve a peaceful atmosphere. Some offerings may be available to guests by invitation or separate coordination, for those who feel called.
For guests who feel curious, there are optional ways to deepen your experience. Several spaces on the property may be reserved privately by request, subject to availability and intended use. These include the Carriage Room, an intimate first-floor salon featuring a historic 1902 Steinway piano and speakeasy-style bar; the Lotus Dome, a light-filled geodesic studio tucked beneath the redwoods and designed for movement, meditation, and creative practice; and private use of select garden and outdoor bar areas. These spaces are not included with the Airbnb booking and are coordinated separately.
Chez Serendip is also home to horses, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, and local wildlife. Animals live in designated areas and are typically enjoyed from a respectful distance unless a guided experience is arranged. Guided experiences with the animals may be arranged during your stay, by request. The property also has the capability to accommodate equine overnight stays for guests traveling with their own horse. By prior arrangement and subject to availability, horses may be boarded in a designated outdoor arena with access to nearby trail riding. This option is not included in the Airbnb reservation and requires advance coordination.
Daytime visitors are welcome with prior host arrangement. Up to ten non-overnight guests may be hosted at the Carriage House during your stay, provided plans are coordinated in advance and align with property guidelines and quiet hours. Overnight guests must be included in the reservation.
The Carriage House comfortably sleeps up to four guests. For extended family or additional overnight visitors, an on-property trailer with one queen bed and two double beds may be available by separate reservation, subject to availability.
After your reservation is confirmed, you will have the option to complete a short pre-arrival questionnaire designed to help us prepare thoughtfully for your stay. This allows you to share preferences, intentions, or interest in optional experiences. Participation is entirely optional.
Before arrival, you will receive a detailed House Manual with everything you need for a comfortable stay, including kitchen and fireplace guidance, property maps, quiet hours, and practical details about the property.
Some guests come here to rest deeply. Others arrive to write, reflect, or gather thoughtfully with people they love. There is no agenda and no expectation. Your stay is yours to shape.
