A refuge from urban day-to-day life, it invites a “slow” and contemplative lifestyle. Also an excellent base for discovering the Middle Tagus and the central region of Portugal.
A fully renovated old family home, with a contemporary and minimalist architectural project, special attention to design, details and the frank relationship between the interior and exterior spaces.

The space
Only a few main walls and stone wedges were kept from the original construction. The volumetry remained unchanged, but the logic of internal organization was totally transformed. The kitchen functions as the central “kneecap” of the house, with direct connections to the bedroom area, the living room facing the garden, and the patio through a double-glazed door. There, under a pergola, the smooth transition between interior space and exterior space takes place.

The old fruit trees now coexist with other species chosen for their ability to provide shade, framing and metamorphosis throughout the year. All the vegetation near the house is deciduous, allowing the sun to warm the interior in winter. Along the boundaries, preference was given to evergreen species. Everything here is about inhabiting the outer spaces throughout each of the four seasons of the year.

The house has a passive and low-tech thermal behavior, without the use of air-conditioning.
With windows that take advantage of southern sun exposure, a well-insulated roof and thick walls, everything works together to achieve a comfortable indoor temperature, with minimal fluctuations between day and night, thanks to the building's thermal inertia.
In summer, the raw walls and concrete floor maintain a cool atmosphere. Windows equipped with mosquito nets allow you to take advantage of low nighttime temperatures through natural ventilation.
In the winter, the low-altitude sun goes deep and naturally warms the house. In addition, the salamander, in addition to heating the interior, provides a particularly cozy atmosphere on cold days.
