Peaceful and worth coming back to

Guests describe this as a peaceful retreat, with many returning for repeat stays
Enjoy a park-like and secluded 2 acres on the Caddo River with over 1/4 mile of river frontage. This clean and comfortable shack is pet friendly! Watch the river and deer from the porch. Kayak up and downstream from the property. Swim in the 8-foot-deep swimming area or wade in the shallows. Sit around the fire as owls call out and eagles and osprey soar through the valley. Relax in the antique porch tub! It's a great place for a couple or the lone-traveler seeking a beautiful spot on the river.

The space
The Shack is clean, simple, cute, and small with a full kitchen, living room, bedroom (no door) and full bathroom with large shower. Enjoy your morning coffee on the screened porch or in a chair by the clear water. There is only one queen bed, so the shack is not suitable for families or groups, but it's a great romantic spot for a couple or a lone-traveler wanting a secluded cabin right on the river. Many have told us this is the best spot on the whole Caddo River!

There is an outdoor tub on the porch, and Shack guests can also enjoy two miles of walking trails right from the property that wind through the adjacent 100acre property! So shack up at the River Shack and discover how Shacktastic this place really is! 🙂

Guest access
You will have access to the full 2-acre property, creek, and river. Enjoy free use of kayaks and tubes as you explore the wide swimming holes and shallows of the Caddo River. The clear water gets deep downstream and shallow upstream with great spots to swim, fish, or wade.

Guests also have access to two miles of walking trails that cross through the adjacent 100acre property. Although these trails are shared with the owners, you will usually enjoy them completely alone! Feed the ducks at the pond, hike through a pine forest and a valley of ferns, and take a rest at one of the picnic tables or wooden benches along the trails.

Other things to note
Cell service is good outside, but weaker inside the shack due to the tin roof. The fiber Wi-Fi is fast and consistent 99% of the time. It is great for streaming movies or working remotely.

Neighborhood highlights

The Caddo River is one of the most popular kayaking and tubing rivers in Arkansas. In the summer, you will enjoy watching groups of people float past! It gets especially busy on weekends and holidays in the summer. However, weekdays and off-season days are much quieter. From late September to early March, you will rarely see anyone else on the river and can enjoy the water by yourselves. March through May is mostly just weekend floaters.

Neighbors: This is the only rental on the 2 acre property. Although there are a couple neighbors nearby, they are quiet and you are unlikely to see them. There is a clean cattle ranch across the paved road that hosts beautiful Brahmas. You may hear a lumber processing plant across the river in the distance through the trees and occasionally kayakers will treat you to their favorite tunes.

Location: The Shack is only 2 miles from Glenwood on a paved road. In Glenwood are restaurants, a grocery store, and pharmacies.

Cell service: We are thankful to have fair to good cell service on the property although some carriers are not great inside the cabin.

We are an outdoorsy family of four. Todd and Elaine work as Geoscientists and love traveling to places with few people. We live in a large city but prefer country-life. We enjoy hosting two cabins. At Thunder Mountain Cabin, you will enjoy 80 acres all to yourself on the S.Fork Caddo River. At The Shack, you will enjoy 2 park-like acres on a beautiful section of the Caddo River. We love escaping from the world at both of these beautiful spots!
