Burnside Homestead is a category 1 NZ listed heritage property. A grand country home built in the late Victorian era (1890’s), Burnside has retained almost all of its original features. The extensive gardens were planted 30 years before the house was built and have matured into a quiet and bird filled woodland and park for wandering amongst. Burnside Homestead offers an experience as much as a place to stay, a step back into the opulence of the past.

The space
Burnside is located inland from Oamaru in the beautiful Waitaki Valley. It is a celebratory luxury stop on the last leg of the Alps to Ocean cycle trail, and a peaceful and picturesque place to base a stay in the Waitaki district. A short distance from the A2O cycle trail with easy access for cycling.
If family groups would like to book the entire house please be in touch as we can place a special booking offer that allows for access to the kitchen

Guest access
Guests have access to the extensive grounds and gardens, as well as the sitting room, billiard room, conservatory and great hall and will be served a continental breakfast in the formal dining room.
The kitchen is not available for meal preparation
If family groups would like to book the entire house please be in touch as we can place a special booking offer that allows for access to the kitchen

During your stay
Marcus and Cathy have recently taken on the ownership and care of Burnside Homestead - one of Oamaru’s oldest historic homesteads. They live in a seperate home on the property.
Marcus comes from a background of project management, and Cathy is a semi-retired veterinarian. They are assisted in their day to day activities by Bentley, their Hungarian Vizsla, and Bleu, the friendly Irish Wolfhound

Other things to note
Guests bringing pets please notify us as you will be able to stay in either the servants wing or coach house but usually not in the main house because of the antique floor coverings and furniture.
