Located halfway up the steep Berkeley hillside in a quiet residential area. The space has amazing natural light with 4 skylights and garden facing windows. There is a patio deck with table and chairs to enjoy meals outdoors. Previously an art studio, now a simple detached cottage at the entrance of our property. Please make sure to read through the description and ask us any questions prior to booking.
The space
🕊 Birds and squirrels often come to visit making this place feel secluded and serene, yet we are still in Berkeley.
☕️ The kitchenette is very simple - ideal for breakfast. There is a water filter, hot water kettle, Toaster, French Press, Areopress and an Induction heater with pot. No Microwave. The under counter fridge does have a freezer.
🌍 We provide reusable cloth kitchen towels instead of paper, bamboo toilet paper and natural bath products.
🛀 The very small and efficient bathroom features Heath tiles and a rain shower with a view of the garden.
🏡 The building itself is a very simple cottage built with the intention of being close to nature. In return you give up some of the comforts you may be used to. In the studio you will need to bundle up inside during cold days, open windows during hot days and have ants coming in for a visit. We find all these trade offs worth it, but it’s a personal decision.
Guest access
🗝 You will have access to the studio and the deck/ porch. The lower garden is not finished and has no access. Our house and the stairs up to it are likewise off limits.
Other things to note
🧹 We have a very thorough cleaning routine and do not use scented products. All fabrics are laundered.
🐜 During your stay It is likely you will see some ants or a spider. We clean between guests but cannot guarantee they will not show up during your stay. They are harmless but if they become too much, please message us and we can clean them up.
🏖 We have a built in heater to keep the cottage cozy on cold days, which works great - but it’s important to note this is not a modern house and may not meet everyone’s expectations on indoor temps. AC is not available the cottage.
🚗 Street parking is available and time limits are rarely enforced in our neighborhood. Please let us know in advance if you would like to park in our driveway as it is not always available.
🐶 We will be happy to host you and your well trained and friendly sub-10lb dog with additional cleaning fee. Please just send a request with some info about your dog.
