Beautiful area
Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Ash Tree Cabin nestles on the edge of our garden by the stream, in a richly biodiverse wooded valley, and field/watermeadow. A quirky, cosy, insulated living space with log burner, enclosing a caravan as the bedroom. Full kitchen and bathroom attached. Covered outdoor space with BBQ and fire bowl. A very special place to relax, spend time in nature, be creative, and explore the beautiful local area.
The space
The cabin is tucked under a splendid 60ft Ash tree and was hand-built, largely from sustainable and recycled materials.
The caravan bedroom has a king size bed area comprising of 2 comfy single mattresses pushed together. There is also a smaller 5ft 4in bunk/seating area.
You will need to be happy lighting and feeding the log burner; we provide full instructions for the uninitiated. We provide all the firewood you need. The caravan bedroom has an oil-filled electric thermostat radiator and the bathroom has a power shower and heated towel rail. The cabin is fully insulated and will stay cosy overnight, but bring your slippers as the floor can get chilly in the early hours!
Well-equipped kitchen with dishwasher, induction hob and combination microwave/convection oven/grill. We highly recommend the lovely local country pubs for special meals out (two are within less than 10 minutes drive).
The cabin has high speed fibre broadband which can easily be switched off if you prefer an off grid experience. NO TV; we have a DAB Radio and a good collection of board games, books and local maps.
Washing machine and freezer space available in utility room of main house.
To the rear of the cabin is the marshy field with a ‘lean-to’ covered area, barbeque and fire bowl. You may well spot the Roe deer, heron, bats and rabbits who are all regular visitors, along with the wide variety of local birds, and small brown trout in the stream. There is also a well-established if secretive badger colony on the far corner of the field.
Guest access
There is a dedicated safe off road parking space on the property. Castle Cary train station is closest, buses from Bath Spa station are regular in the daytime but the nearest bus stop is approx 30 mins steep walk. If you are car free we are happy to arrange lifts where possible, please ask. There are also several local Taxi companies nearby.
Other things to note
There is no TV so bring your own laptop etc if needed!
