A beautiful Victorian basement apartment in a perfect location for exploring Dartmoor National Park and the surrounding area by foot, bicycle or car.
Fully fitted kitchen, bathroom with walk in shower, and generously sized bedroom. Ash View has underfloor heating to keep you cosy.
Sole entry to the apartment is via a set of outdoor stairs. Secure bicycle storage is inside the apartment and a boot room for drying clothing and gear.
Art workshops are also available and taught by the host!
The space
Ash View is a basement apartment in a beautifully renovated Victorian property. On arrival you will be greeted and shown to an external set of stairs which lead down to your accommodation, where you have private, sole entry. Just inside the hallway of the apartment is the bicycle store and boot room/drying room for your exclusive use.
Off the hallway is the kitchen which is fully equipped with dishwasher, fridge, full oven, grill and ceramic hob. There is also a microwave and toaster. Tea towels and washing up liquid are provided. There is a range of teas and coffees including decaffeinated and fruit teas.
A light breakfast is provided for your first morning with us. This will be fresh milk, juice, fruit, butter and jam, pastries, yoghurts and porridge.
The bathroom has a walk in shower, heated towel rail and cotton towels for use during your stay.
The large, spacious, elegant bedroom has a double bed with cream, cotton bed linen. There is a beautiful original Victorian fireplace, wardrobe and plenty of storage for your belongings.
We have also provided board games and playing cards, guide books, maps and local information which you are welcome to use.
The apartment host is an artist and there are original paintings and prints on display, which are available to purchase along with cards and coasters. Workshops are also available and taught by the host. Workshops include needle-felting, Acrylics, Acrylic Inks, Oil Pastels, Mixed-Media, Drawing and sketching. Parking:
Although there is no parking at the property, there is plenty of free on street parking. However if coming by car, you are welcome to unload/load directly in front of the house.
We have secure bicycle storage inside your accommodation via external steps to the property.
Transport Links:
Okehampton Station is now open and links the town directly to Exeter St Davids. Okehampton Station is a five minute walk away from the accommodation.
Okehampton has regular bus services to Tavistock, Barnstaple, Plymouth and many places further afield.
Cycling:
There are plenty of Cycle trails to explore, from a few miles along the Granite Way (which is just a few minutes away, taking you across Meldon Viaduct to Lydford with its Gorge, Waterfall and Castle), to a full Coast to Coast from Ilfracombe to Plymouth. We are located half way along the Devon Coast to Coast national cycle route, ideal for your mid point stay. There is plenty of off road cycling on Dartmoor and routes a little further afield such as the The Tarka Trail and Drakes Trail. Cycle hire is available both in the town and on The Granite Way.
Walking:
There are plenty of walks from your doorstep. We are very privileged to have Simmons Park, where we have a Swiss chalet and a fountain garden. The East Okement River flows through the park and you can walk along this to some wonderful waterfalls on the edge of Dartmoor. Dartmoor National Park is about 10 minutes walk with plenty of Tors to explore. Locally we have the highest (High Willhays and Yes Tor). A little further out, Brentor for its Church on a Tor amidst Devon's rolling hills as well as reservoirs, woodlands and waterfalls to enjoy. Okehampton Castle is also a short walk away and Okehampton Golf course is minutes away just at the top of the road!
Other things to note
Okehampton is a wonderful little town with a range of independent shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants as well as several supermarkets, a post office, launderette and a Victorian shopping arcade all accessible minutes from the property. The Museum of Dartmoor Life and newly refurbished cinema is located within the town plus there is a leisure Centre with indoor swimming pool located in Simmons Park and Okehampton Golf Course is minutes away!
We have some lovely towns nearby with great architecture and traditional pannier markets including Tavistock and Barnstaple. We are also blessed to have two coastlines, the rugged North Coast beaches, including Bude and Widemouth just 40 minutes away and calmer waters to the south. Sailing and Watersports are also available at Roadford Lake which is about 20 minutes away.
