Art Church Iowa is a re-purposed/desanctified 153 year old Presbyterian Church. Its last religious service was in 1969.
Artist Zack Jones purchased the building in 2012 from the Historical Society. Zack originally lived in the downstairs while using the upstairs as a studio space. Zack encourages guests to look upstairs during daylight and also night time as the space changes. Disclaimer: Use of the upstairs is not part of the Airbnb rental.
The space
The Airbnb is the downstairs portion of the church. You will be surrounded by original oil paintings and eclectic art. There is full surround sound system for iPhones. Others will need an adapter to for receiver jack. The 1 bedroom has a king size bed with 1/2 bath. There is a queen size Murphy bed in the main area and a futon. The kitchen is stocked with cooking essentials. There is no full sized oven but there is a toaster/convection oven that works well for modest cooking such as pizza, medium sized casserole dish, wings, etc.
The Art Church is chill atmosphere and within walking distance to Malvern St businesses and the Wabash Trace Nature Trail. 1/2 a block away is the Saturday Concert Series June-July 6:30-9:30p
Guest access
The upstairs sanctuary has a full sky scape mural underway. It is a full time art studio and is available for private functions. Guests are welcome to go upstairs and visit the space and view artwork. Art work inventory comes and goes. Some paintings and prints are available for purchase while others are commissioned work. Contact Zack to inquire. *all art materials are off limits. The upstairs is not for use with the Airbnb rental.

breakable items.
Art Church Iowa is at times an active studio. The upstairs is also available to the public during the Saturday Night Concert Series June-July. 5-9p. You may hear footsteps and people visiting at a low decimal.
There is no washer and dryer available, but the laundromat is just a few blocks away.
Mezzo is a new cocktail bar located 1 block away and next to the Saturday Malvern Concert Series. Tee’d Up Tavern is a new Sportsbar that opened in 2025 next to Mulholland Grocer known for quality meats. Wabash Bakery/Coffee opened on 4th St(same as Art Church) Dec2025.

Neighborhood highlights
Project Art Church is located in a small rural community of 1200 people and only 1 block from main street. It is close proximity to the Wabash Nature Trail which is 63 miles of groomed path for biking and hiking. The Art Church is walking distance to 2 cafes, bar, grocery store, library, pharmacy, gift shop, and art gallery(Fine Arts on 5th. Open Thur-Sat). Classic Cafe is a popular eatery with specialty coffee drinks for addicts like myself(closed Sunday afternoon and Monday except for coffee until 10a). Malvern is a quiet town with convenience and growing public art. Sundays are quiet. Friday and Saturdays are the most active.

I'm also a Wabash Nature Trail advocate and helped create the Southwest Iowa Art Tour. I work towards creating a destination and see the arts and recreation as an avenue.
