The space
Bring the whole family and pets (for an additional fee) to stay in a historic 1907 brick feed mill building right on the Wisconsin State 400 Bike Trail and off of WI Tourist Highway 33, only blocks from the Baraboo River with sandstone bluffs. Located in a small downtown with restaurants, antiques, gifts, groceries, and more just a few paces away.
Private Studio Apartment with a private cedar-lined bathroom with roll-in spa shower. Enjoy the Open First Floor Studio space with a kitchenette area and dining table. The kitchenette has a small fridge, double burner cooktop, counter-top grilling machine, portable toaster/air fry oven, microwave, and coffeemaker. (There is NO full-size oven or full size cooktop provided)
First-floor sleeping arrangements are provided by two queen beds. We have also provided a baby changing area and other amenities such as a rocking chair, stroller, pack-and-play with bassinet, baby swing, and more baby friendly items.
Lounge on the chairs or the sleeper(queen) sofa for relaxing, reading, eating, watching movies on the tv (we have movies to use or redbox nearby, sorry- no TV subscription so we all play outside more), or it serves as another first-floor queen-sleeper bed to accommodate up to 6 people on the first level. (Note ONLY children ages 7 year or older and very physically capable are likely able to access the sleeping areas in the loft-children under the age of 7 years will need to sleep on the first-floor level of the studio apartment.)
A steep "tiny home" stair, that also provides storage shelving for toys, leads to the Low Ceiling Loft/Bunk area located above the queen bed and bathroom area. There is a built-in baby "gate" that can be closed over the stairway to prevent small toddlers or babies from climbing onto the steep stairs. Children must be minimum age 7 or above and very physically capable to be able to handle use of the steep stairway to access the Loft area for sleeping or play. The steps are steep and spaced a great height apart in the space-saving design that serves better than a loft ladder does. Adults must also be physically capable of climbing to utilize the steep steps to the Loft Area.
The Low-Ceiling Loft Area provides sleeping for up to six additional people with two full-size mattresses on the floor and one full size bed with two thin mattresses that is divided into two sections to remain placed together or pulled a bit apart for small twin beds. It's like glamping in a fort or playhouse, a tad better than rough camping, but not intended for premium comfort. There is a child's sofa and small play area/ reading nook in the loft. No Food or Drink is allowed in the Loft Area.
There's Outdoor Seating under the awning at the front of the building and just outside the Studio Apartment front Doors. There is a Charcoal Grill there for guest use-BRING CHARCOAL. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the back deck along the trail or the fire pit across the trail from the deck.
Up to Two Dogs are allowed to be included with an additional $25 Fee Per Dog Per Stay/Week. Dogs must be approved by first. Must communicate with host in advance about pets coming for the stay. The Per Pet Fee will be requested and expected to be paid the Day Of Check-In. For Stays Longer than a week, the fee will be increased based on length of stay.
It's a cozy space that maximizes the use of the area and will be extra cozy with twelve people, but hope you visit to enjoy our great surrounding outdoor playground for the most part. Accommodating twelve individuals is only for convenience of being close to each other in one space and budget friendly for such big groups. Bigger groups might be able to access the public restroom inside the bike shop when its open for an additional bathroom facility when needed.
The Old Feed Mill Building is a constant work in progress as well is this space. The room is in lovely working order, and progress on finishes and more amenities will continue each year. We are very happy to open the unique space to area visitors in the warm summer and cool spring and fall seasons into the early winter months.
The room may be colder in the winter and require additional electric space heaters provided be used. The room floor and bathroom/shower floor will be cold in the winter and bringing slippers, house shoes, and flip-flops for the shower is highly recommended. The apartment will be unavailable in the most frigid months of the year, especially January and February.
Other things to note
This airbnb is located in a rural area with wonderful nature and the bugs that come with it. A variety of bugs are around the exterior of the property and may make their way into the space as anyone opens the door to enter or leave. There may be bugs present, despite our efforts to keep the space clean and as pest free as possible.
