A specious one bedroom apartment with a private kitchen, bathroom and living room seven minutes walk from Peponi and two minutes to Banana House. The romantic upper terrace is shared and looks over the roof tops of Shela to the sea and there are two girls who clean everyday and will do laundry which is included. Ceiling fans and window breezes cool the apartment. Please bring the shampoo and soaps you prefer. We look forward to hosting you…! Please let me know arrival time one day before

Located 100 m from the Indian ocean, the house consists of 4 en suite rooms amongst which 2 master bedrooms and 2 standard berooms. Please note that we limit the number of guests to a maximum of 6 in order to preserve the house, avoid stressing our staff and maximise your experience as a guest. Each room is self contained and has a queen size bed. Two of the master bedrooms have their own private outside verandah. The house is let with a Cook who does also all the shopping and a House boy.

Bone Idle

A rustic beach house, Robinson Crusoe style. At the southern tip of Lamu Island, the house faces the Indian Ocean as it rolls in along a great stretch of empty beach. An absolutely perfect place for simply doing nothing, one can nevertheless also lie on the beach, float out to sea or take long walks across the island. Lamu, centuries old, and the most ancient Swahili settlement on the East African coast, is just a 30 minute boat ride away.

Baji was a great host. Right from the moment when I booked, he offered helpful information about Lamu. He advised on flights and transport. He always responded immediately. He graciously picked us up at Manda airport, together with his assistant, Musa. The staff were polite and helpful. They offer a simple but good breakfast; with the best fruit juice ever! Baji is very friendly, smiled a lot and made us feel at home. He provided information about the Island and was always available when needed. For example, I forgot to move with our room key. Baji immediately made arrangements to open the premises for me, which also included him coming to open for me on late evenings. There was a mix up with our online booking for 2 guests, but Baji kindly offered us the Family room, free of charge. And his room charges are lower than most places. If anybody is looking for a comfortable stay in a Historical place with a strong heritage and cultural experience, Baji's place is the place to book.

I had a wonderful stay at the Kizingo Eco Lodge, I was completely thrilled and can really recommend it! The staff was very warm and helpful. The lodge is located at the end of the 12km long beach and is surrounded by dunes. The beach is very beautiful, quiet and you can swim there even at low tide. The restaurant and cabanas are all unique and beautiful, full of attention to detail and everything is locally made. Night Sky was very airy, large and had lots of pretty niches to linger in. The bathroom was also very large and beautiful. The food was excellent and the cook surprised me with delicious, creative vegan meals. Nicola built the lodge so consciously and sustainably, there were wonderful, locally produced natural care products in the bathroom. The lodge can be either reached by boat or by motorbike from Shela along the beach in 15min (KSH 1000 only one way), so that it's easy to go there just for the day, have a wonderful meal and cool drinks at the beach underneath the shade.

Abdulrahman’s listing is perfect for two. We had enough space, fans were working, kitchen was fully equipped and the outdoor shower was a great feature. It’s pretty close to the beach so no trouble walking to all the nice places along the Shela coastline. My partner and I will definitely be back.

Furaha House is a wonderful place, and the location is absolutely perfect for a beautiful stay in Lamu! We loved how convenient it was—everything was within easy reach. Nyama was truly fantastic and made our stay seamless. He’s an incredible chef, and the lobster dinner he prepared was the best my parents have ever had! He was kind, attentive, and made us feel right at home. Regarding the current construction, I had asked Donatella about it beforehand, and it was mostly ok. It is very, very close to the house and does impact the view shown in the photos. You can almost high-five the workers while having breakfast. Also, because the bathroom/shower windows aren’t covered, there’s little privacy from the construction site. One small safety concern we encountered was small rocks and pebbles falling from the site while we were leaving the house - just something to be aware of. Overall, we had a wonderful stay! Donatella was incredibly responsive, and everything went smoothly.
