The space
Our peaceful wooded lot has towering fir trees, wildflowers and berries, a fairy garden, vegetable & herb gardens, bird feeders, bird houses and birdbaths. Feel free to stroll to the fairy garden. Relax on the garden bench or patio. Enjoy the birds, flowers and tranquil fountain along with the wafting scents of jasmine, roses, honeysuckle and heliotrope. Watch for hummingbirds at the fuchsias and hanging baskets. Creatures of the forest seen on the property include Douglas squirrel, chipmunk, rabbit, raccoon, fox, deer, bald eagle and quail.
We are close to Joemma Beach & Penrose Point state parks, the Purdy spit (Henderson Bay), Gig Harbor waterfront, and Tacoma Narrows bridge. Walk to nearby Carney Lake or Koeneman Lake Trail.
Boating season begins May 1. Bring your paddle boards, kayaks, tubes and floats (or rent from us). Carney Lake is a 4-block walk or 0.3 mile drive (WA state park Discover Pass required for parking.)
Note: 1) Our beaches are rocky; water shoes recommended. 2) Check Puget Sound tide tables before heading out to salt water beaches; visit at low tide as some beaches disappear at high tide.
Enjoy day trips to Seattle, Tacoma, Gig Harbor, Olympic and Mt. Rainier National Parks.
There are many attractions, golf courses, lakes, festivals and events in the area. We encourage you to go explore!

Our location is ideal for travel nurses & military; there are many hospitals within 30 mi (St. Anthony, St. Michael, Allenmore, St. Joseph, Tacoma General, Mary Bridge Children’s, Harrison, Mason General, Naval Hospital Bremerton/Bangor, Joint Base Lewis-McChord).

Guest access
Guests will have access to the bedroom, bathroom, and common areas: great room, kitchen & dining areas, and patio.
There are two sleeper sofas (queen & full) in the great room, and one sleeper sofa (twin) in the library. Two 22” deluxe queen air beds can also be set up in the great room.
The bedroom is suitable for single or double occupancy. The library is most suitable for 1 student. The great room is most suitable for 2-8 students.
For additional space and privacy, another room may be booked separately: Woodland Garden Retreat 2. [Recommend large groups book 2 rooms whenever possible (WGR3 & WGR2).]
Although we are not wheelchair accessible, there are only 2 small steps up to the front door of our one-story home.
Because of the mild climate (average temps 45-75 degrees) in our area, most homes do not have central air conditioning; however, a portable air conditioner is available for use during excessively hot weather. There is a ceiling fan, portable fan & heater in the room.
Workspace with desk, blazing fast 5G fiberoptic internet, mesh WiFi router & 2 satellite extenders.
There are smart TVs in the bedroom, great room and library. Streaming services available include Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+.
Let us know at time of booking, if you are interesting in cooking, grilling or using the laundry room.
Iron & ironing board are in the laundry room. Washer and dryer are available to guests before quiet hours.

During your stay
Host generally will be present and available for assistance. Will occasionally interact with guests, while respecting your need for privacy. We talked a little bit about Spanish.

•Hang damp towels on towel bar or shower curtain rod to dry. Towels are refreshed daily.
•Remove shoes upon entry. You may wear socks or slippers indoors. No bare feet, please.
