Warbler Lodge is situated within Prairie Island Campground along the backwaters of the Mississippi River. This tiny house tells a story about the flora and fauna of the Prairie Island park area.
The space
Upon arriving to Prairie Island Campground (PIC) and the Warbler Lodge, YOU ARE HERE. Time slows in this site alongside the Mississippi River, the place that many paths and roads have led to. Allow casting a line, a flickering fire, taking a stroll, or sinking a paddle in the water to spur reflection and direction on where to go from here. In the words of Kenny Salway, the Last River Rat, "Each time that you step in the river, you never step into the same river. Change is the only constant." Discover new inspiration in the deeper truths that surface when in nature.
One canoe, 1-kayak, and 2-cruiser bikes, are included in your stay! Additional equipment such as Stand up Paddle boards, and additional boats and bikes may be rented through our rental service. Don't forget the bug repellent! The PSL is situated in the backwaters of the Mississippi River valley which is teeming with life. Also, a gas grill and a fire ring are available for outdoor cooking.
PIC boasts a vibrant Community Garden and Campstore where guests may connect with other guests, gather a few fresh ingredients for a meal when the garden is in production, and appreciate the efforts of local artists. You can purchase firewood, ice, Prairie Island Campground apparel, and bug repellent. During each weekend between June and August, we host yoga, fun family educational programming that centers on observing the surrounding ecology, live music, and movies projected on an outdoor screen. Please check the calendar on Prairie Island Campground's website for more up to date information on events.
The Warbler Lodge is located in the City of Winona municipal campground. While the weekdays are very quiet, the weekends typically bring more activity. The tiny house is located in a spacious camping site, and there are folks tent camping in adjacent sites.
Guest access
As guests of Prairie Island Campground, you have access to the swimming beach and dock, boat launch, the Community Garden, and an 18-hole frisbee golf course as long as its not a holiday. The greater Prairie Island park includes the Black Bird Slough canoe trail, shoreline fishing, 3+ miles of river bottom forested hiking trails, boat launches, dog park, and more! Downtown Winona is just a 20-30 minute bike ride. Please view the website for Prairie Island Campground and Visit Winona for more information about regional outdoor recreation opportunities.
The paddle sport equipment will be accessible starting Memorial Day weekend through the middle of September, as long as the river conditions (flow, level, wind, and temperature) are within safe parameters.
