An overnight town with history and warmth, a summer café with home baking and charm.
Summer operation.
The space
Ulvesund lighthouse was built in 1870, to light up and show the way in the ship lane around the notorious Stadt, which must be passed between Ålesund and Måløy. It is a leading and entry lighthouse, and for over 150 years has led boats safely into Ulvesundet.
Since 2003, Ulvesund Lighthouse has been operated as an overnight town, summer café and creative meeting place. Sølvi Helen Aemmer Hopland has a lease with the Norwegian Coastal Administration West, and since 2003 has facilitated good experiences at the lighthouse. The vision is that Ulvesund Lighthouse will also bring light to guests and the community, not just to boats.
Children and young people should rejoice and experience mastery and well-being at the lighthouse, and families should be able to afford to vacation here.
Children under 5 years are free, and for children 5-15 years the price is 400 per night incl. breakfast and made bed.
The single supplement is only NOK 200 per night.
The rooms we have are different, so we try to place our guests so that they have the best possible experience, and so we can say yes to as many as possible of those who want to visit the lighthouse.
If our houses are full, we can offer a tent pitch in the garden, and hammock accommodation in the lighthouse.
Guest access
The café rooms and the entire lighthouse garden are common areas for our guests, both café guests and overnight guests.
The café kitchen is for staff only.
There is a guest bathroom in the hallway outside the café.
In the Machine room there is a separate shower/toilet for those who live there.
In the outhouse there is a separate toilet, and access to a shower in the main house.
In the lighthouse attic, where we have 2 family rooms (Panel room and Toromsen), there is a bathroom between the rooms, in the hallway.
Those who sleep in tents or the fire shed, use the guest bathroom in the main house.
Our garden furniture and garden games are for free use for our guests.
In the café we have an electric piano, a barrel organ, knitting, books, toys and games, which are meant for guests to use, for the enjoyment of themselves and others.
Every Thursday in the summer season we have Thursday Jam in the old barn, with music, singing, waffles, juice and coffee. And preferably a campfire pan and sausage spit. It is open to anyone who wants to join, and is extra nice if the overnight guests are included.
During your stay
Meeting the guests is the best thing about running the lighthouse. And to facilitate meetings between people from different contexts. This is not a place to be anonymous. But it is a good place to be in order to seek peace and direction, and decide for yourself how much you want to engage with others.
The lighthouse is a meeting place.
The direct contact with the guests, in the booking situation and in the city, is important and nice for us. Mutual respect and openness are of course here.
Other things to note
Here you don't pay for the "room". You pay to be a guest at the lighthouse, to be one of the environment at the lighthouse. To sit in the old lantern and write reflections on life, or to lie in a hammock with sea views. To end up in a good conversation about life, and to enjoy flavors from the garden and fresh rolls for breakfast.
The room is only a part of it. The lighthouse is more of an adventure than a "hotel".
From the lighthouse it is about 15 minutes by car to Måløy, and about 30 minutes to Refviksaden, Kråkenes lighthouse, Kannesteinen, Hendanes lighthouse and Sætrasanden. 20 minutes to walk to Osmundsvåg, where there is idyll and beautiful sunsets.
