Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Find yourself in this unique, tranquil, converted art studio halfway between Cannon Beach and Portland. Private deck overlooks the organic garden. Deer frequent the orchard. Art supplies on the shelves. Kitchenette. Warm outdoor shower and cool outdoor spaces to explore. Peaceful and inspiring. Roast marshmallows over the fire. Wander the nearby hiking/biking/walking trails, parks and wine country. Guesthouse is 3.5 or 4.5 miles on county gravel road depending on your approach. 1250' elevation.

The space
A former design studio with an open floor plan makes an ideal place for a relaxing and comfortable stay in the forest. Double futon bed in the front room, Queen bed in the back room. Unwind on the deck before you investigate art supplies and project ideas for all ages. The kitchenette has fridge/freezer, microwave, hot plate, toaster oven, immersion blender, cookware, dishes, a French press or drip with fresh ground coffee and a deep cast iron enamel sink around the corner. The toilet is in a small private room. A private, hot outdoor shower and faucet to rinse beach sand from your toes is located just outside your private entrance. Ask about nearby forest trails. Check with me or Timber, Oregon for weather forecast.

Guest access
You are welcome to walk around the garden, greenhouse, orchard, forest and nearby trails. Your privacy is important yet I am just next door. Don’t hesitate to knock or text if you need something or have questions. I want your stay to be comfortable, delightful and peaceful! Please respect distant neighbors, they’re all friends and won’t bite!

Other things to note
Internet connection can occasionally be spotty but wait a minute or two and another satellite will pass over. There is no indoor shower or bathtub but if you’re in need there’s one here in the main house for your use. Please note: Winter can bring freezing temperatures and water lines to the outdoor shower may need to be drained. At 1250’ elevation seasonal snow is a possibility as is the occasional power outage. Both bring challenges and wonder. ❄️
Please text me at the end of your stay. Thanks
- Chris

Neighborhood highlights

I have a variety of resources in the studio that will help plan your stay: Nearby beaches, state and regional parks, nature preserves, birding and wildlife opportunities, winery tours, campgrounds. The Wilson River is just 20 minutes away towards Tillamook, with Pelican Brewery and Pub, the Tillamook Cheese factory and their yummy ice cream. A day in Astoria is something I always enjoy: The Columbia River Maritime Museum, Cannery, the Astoria Column, Fort Clatsop, thrift stores, Farmer’s Market, bookstores and all the beautiful Victorian houses on the hill.

We are lucky to have OutAzaBlue, a wonderful restaurant and brewery just a few minutes away on Highway 6. Great pizza and wine. Delicious Sunday brunches! And a new restaurant Chicken and Guns (with vegetarian options: the guns are these scrumptious, mouth-watering, textured fried potatoes) is just 10 minutes away. Scrumptious meals!

Forest Grove is a small town gem. Wednesday afternoon Farmers Market. Zesti Food Carts. Ridgewalker Brewery. Pacific University. Slow Rise Bakehouse. The Aquatic Center. B Street Trail. Fern Hill Wetlands. Killin Wetlands.

Where I went to school: Buena High Ventura, Cal State Long Beach
I’m a retired graphic designer/illustrator/artist who grew up in Ventura CA. Graduated from CSULB. Lived in Vancouver BC then moved to Oregon. I prune a small fruit orchard as do the deer. Enjoy traveling yet very rooted to this land. Attempting to downsize a garden that somehow grows larger and wilder every year. Know the arts can change lives/stretch boundaries/create connections. Grandfather/chauffeur to a growing family: twin boys 4, twin girls 8 and a teenager who just started driving.
