Mountain view

Soak up the view during your stay.

Park for free

This is one of the few places in the area with free parking.
Fit for explorers who will enjoy jungle/mountain vistas. A self-contained, private suite with attached bath, kitchenette, balcony and back patio, has a unique history as part of a larger property that once was a monkey rescue sanctuary.

Minutes from San Ramon, the City of Presidents and Poets, perfectly situated half-way (a 30-45 minutes) between San Jose’s airport & the Gulf of Nicoya.

A special place you won't want to leave.

The space
Casita Magallanes is a spacious, single suite (queen bed) unit with an attached bath (plush towels) and an equipped kitchenette (small fridge, microwave, induction burner, coffee maker, filters, cooking/eating utensils, etc.).

Surrounded by lush jungle, enjoy your morning coffee on the balcony or sit on the backyard patio and try to spot the resident Motmot family.

The indoor furniture is hand made by local artisans from Sarchi with locally sourced wood.

Guest access
In addition to your private space, balcony and back patio, you have full access to the spectacular grounds, gardens and courtyards throughout the larger villa.

Enjoy a glass of wine watching the sunset over the Nicoya mountain range and Gulf of Nicoya. Or simply take in the nighttime, distant lights of the port/beach city of Puntarenas from the west yard or wrap-around porch of the main villa. It's all yours to enjoy!

You will be minutes by car from San Ramon central, the city of "presidents and poets", just in case you have an "itch" to explore the city to buy some fresh baked bread at our favorite panaderia.

Other things to note
This home is at an elevation of 3,100 feet and the year-round temperature varies from 65-80 degrees on average.

Rainy season is June-November and the dry season December-May.

Where you’ll be

San Ramon, Alajuela Province, Costa Rica

This is a rural, mountain home at 3,100 feet, overlooking the Gulf of Nicoya. You will be immersed in the jungle, bordering on a national preserve, the Tanaca National Forest, and surrounded by peaceful beautiful vistas and incredible wildlife.

The grounds are beautiful, teeming with fruit trees and a broad mix of year-round flowering fauna and wildlife. Depending on the season if you look closely, you might encounter Capuchin monkeys (who visit year-round to eat the fruit from the guaba, banana, and other trees), anteaters, pizotes, opossums, watusas/agoutis, skunks, cayotes, and amazingly beautiful birds, including toucans, hummingbirds, Chachalacas, blue-crowned motmots, flycatchers, woodpeckers, macaws, and resplendent quetzals. ALL of which has been spotted on the property (insiders tip: listen for a frog-like croaking sound during the day. That's a sure sign there is a Toucan nearby).

Occasionally you may even have visits from friendly, neighborhood dogs, cats or even a cow from the dairy farm up the road, who have been known to wander off for a day trip to “greener pastures”.

During parts of the year you could find yourself socked in, surrounded by clouds, only to clear up by evening so that you can see the night lights of Puntarenas.

Temperatures range from an extreme low of 60 in the evening to a high of 85 during the day, but ordinarily between 65-80.

Enjoy your stay and the pura vida, the pure life of Costa Rica.

We’re an American-Costa Rican couple married since 2000. We're lovers of truth and wish to pursue it without counting the cost. We prefer the road less traveled, local restaurants, culture, warm weather, beaches and our mountain home in San Ramon. We also are outdoor Christmas decorating enthusiasts (SoFloChristmas), which occupies us several months of the year. We want to share our joy, love of life and living, with others.
