This beautiful loft apartment is located in a handcrafted timber-frame barn. Many artistic touches make this space cozy and unique. Surrounded by oak trees and gorgeous landscape, this setting is a perfect getaway spot.
Whether you choose to unwind in the serenity that surrounds our olive farm or venture out to experience all that SLO County has to offer, you'll be in the perfect spot.
The space
Our ranch is a total of 50 acres and the only other house you can see is our other Airbnb rental which is barely visible through the trees. We have ten acres planted in Tuscan olive trees from which we make award-winning olive oil.
When you're at the ranch, it seems like you're in the middle of nowhere, but we're only 10 to 15 minutes by car from the Edna Valley wine region, Pismo Beach, downtown San Luis Obispo with its world-famous Thursday night Farmers' Market, beautiful mission and many shopping opportunities as well as the quaint Village of Arroyo Grande. Hearst Castle is about an hour away. Numerous grocery stores are also 10-15 minutes away.
If you choose to just stay home, we provide you with books, games and Netflix to keep you entertained along with Wi-fi and a dedicated workspace.
The barn is authentic timber-frame construction. The structure is made using only wood joints and no nails. Will made all of the handrails and the windows as well as doing much of the construction. We lived in this space for twenty years and blew glass in a studio downstairs.
We no longer blow glass, but the downstairs of the barn is still an art studio where we occasionally work on various projects or have small classes. We are open by appointment for olive oil tasting, so there may be small groups stopping by for tastings on the patio to the back of the barn.
On Tuesday evenings at 4pm from May to October our neighbor Holly teaches yin yoga classes on the lawn behind the barn. We provide mats and props if you'd like to join in (free of charge). You are free to take walks on the ranch. We provide a map of the various roads or trails.
The kitchen is stocked with dishes, glasses, wine glasses and flatware. Also provided are pots and pans, coffee maker, blender, microwave, toaster, mixing bowls, kitchen knives --- the list goes on. We've tried to think of everything you might need to prepare meals if you so desire.
Our home is on the property as well -- up the hill from the barn. Our house is made from strawbale construction which provides amazing insulation and allows for more organic shapes than standard stud-wall construction. If you're interested, we'll be happy to tell you all about strawbale houses.

My husband, Will Carlton, and I are artists and farmers. We both are builders and creators in various media. Except for the cottage, which we completely renovated, all of the buildings and landscaping on our 50-acre ranch have been built by us (with help from amazing friends). We have 1500 Tuscan-varietal olive trees from which we make Tiber Canyon Olive Oil.
We love to meet new people and have enjoyed staying at many Airbnb locations.
