THE LAYER | ATAMI GARDEN is surrounded by greenery in every season. Inside, original architectural details have been perfectly preserved: intricate woodwork, handcrafted woven ceilings, and carved panels depicting Mount Fuji. Reimagined as a home shaped by multiple eras, the interiors move from mid-century and warm 1970s influences into the present.
Guests are invited to slow down and settle into our relaxed record lounge, three peaceful tatami bedrooms, and a large onsen bath finished with hinoki and Tajimi tile, with bamboo swaying slowly outside the windows.
This is a home where you can experience both traditional craftsmanship and contemporary comforts.
We can accommodate up to six people in three tatami rooms. Two rooms are on the second floor, separated by fusuma (sliding doors). There is a more private tatami room on the first floor. There are two toilets on the first floor, and a separate dressing room with two sinks, and a large shower-bath room with onsen hot spring water.
Amenities and conveniences include:
- Deluxe double futons
- Yukata (Japanese-style robes)
- Osaji soaps, shampoo, conditioner
- Towels and slippers
- Coffee and tea
- Light kitchen supplies (oil, salt, pepper)
- High-speed internet
Please see the amenities section for a full list
THE LAYER | ATAMI GARDEN is our most recent restoration, inspired by our experiences hosting guests at THE LAYER | ITO.
Atami's History:
From the early 1600s, when Tokugawa Ieyasu sought restorative waters in Atami’s hot springs, through the literary pilgrimages of Osamu Dazai and Yukio Mishima, to its rapid postwar growth, Atami has been a retreat inspiring creativity, romance, and relaxation for more than 400 years.
We look forward to hosting you in beautiful, seaside Atami!
