The space
"You get a line, I get a pole …"
The Hemlock is a private haven nestled in 30 acres of woods with a 4-acre fishing lake. At the same time, it's only 25-30 mins from The Caverns, Tracy City, Monteagle, and McMinnville. It's the perfect spot for a small family, a couple looking to reconnect, or a group of close friends.
What is the cabin made out of?
The cabin was built from old-growth Eastern Hemlock harvested locally on the plateau by Mr. Adam Elmo Whitman. Heading towards Beersheba Springs on 56, you will cross Firescald Creek using The Elmo and Topsy Whitman Memorial Bridge! An Eastern Hemlock is growing right next to the cabin!
What is the cabin like?
It was built in an old-fashioned way. You'll see rope between the floorboards and a beaver chewed log for a handrail. It's truly unlike any other cabin you've visited. You'll feel like you've walked back in time, starting with the 1930s "Monitor Top" refrigerator. It's decorated to feel like an old fishing cabin from the '30s or '40s.
How do I get to the cabin?
The private gravel driveway is marked with a high vis address sign. You drive the loop to the cabin and park right alongside it. This makes it easy to unpack your vehicle.
What are the surroundings like?
You and your guests are the only ones on 30 wooded acres with your very own 4-acre fishing lake. There's a large wooden dock to fish from and a nearby firepit with cedar Adirondack chairs and tables. There's also 3 picnic tables to choose from. You can grill out on a charcoal park grill near the cabin or roast over the firepit near the lake.
You really couldn't ask for more!
How will I enjoy my time at the cabin?
You can enjoy a movie from bed via a 50" 4K Smart TV. Or, you can pick up one of many board games, puzzles, or playing cards. We also have a checkerboard table in the loft.
If you're the outdoor type, go hiking around the property and enjoy the lake! The Hemlock is the perfect base for the outdoor enthusiast, with Savage Gulf State Park, Grundy Forest State Natural Area, Greeter Falls, Grundy Lakes, Foster Falls, Laurel Falls, and Stone Door nearby - just to name a few!
Where will I sleep?
The cabin has 2 sleeping areas. These areas are not separated by a door. One area is an upstairs loft with a full size bed (about 54" x 75") and a twin daybed (about 38" x 75"). The second area is downstairs with a queen size bed (about 60" x 80").
Where can I freshen up?
An oversized bathroom is located downstairs near the loft stairs. It features a shower bath with a rain shower head and handheld, toilet, antique wardrobe, and a single sink/vanity. We provide shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toilet paper, hair dryer, and bath linens to complete your stay.
Can I wash my clothes?
Yes! There is a 4.7 cu. ft. washer and dryer in the bathroom to the right of the sliding antique door. We provide All Free Clear Mighty Pacs, stain remover, wool balls, and dryer sheets for your use. A handheld steamer is also available if you need to iron out some winkles.
Can I work remotely from the cabin?
Yes! There's a small laptop-friendly desk adjacent to the front door, complete with a task light and outlets to plug in your devices. We have fiber internet.
Where can I store my stuff?
Hanging storage is available on the left-hand side of the antique wardrobe located in the bathroom. Bath linens and a first aid kit is also available in the wardrobe. The wardrobe is labeled. Cleaning supplies are stored on the right-hand side for our cleaning crew to use.
There's a number of wall hooks as well as 2 luggage racks in the lofted sleeping area.
Where can I cook?
The kitchen is fully equipped. There is a cool antique oak dining set and a toddler chair that's perfect for little ones that can sit up unassisted. There is no dishwasher, but you can wash up while enjoying a gorgeous view of the lake and woods!
