THE PRACTICALITIES
Whether you want to immerse yourself in the outdoors or are looking for a romantic getaway, this beautiful lakeside home in the Heartlands of Tasmania has it all.
Within a stones-throw of the water, this stunning adults-only retreat has everything you'd want in a home away from home.
There are lots of living spaces in- and outdoors and two queen bedrooms with spectacular water views. Cook up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen - you'll find everything for the hobby chef to shine, including a basic pantry. The bathroom with its walk-in rain shower is a delight. And the cosy mezzanine floor offers amazing views over the lakes whilst the wood heater is a great place to curl up in front of on a rainy day.
Grab one of the many books or entertain yourselves with board games, listen to music or simply just watch the beauty of the outside.
This house is as much about its beautifully unique architecture and cosy feel as it is about the outdoors. The large deck, private jetty, outdoor fire-pit and extensive lawn are great areas for play and relaxation. No matter what the weather throws at you, there is plenty to do.
Situated between Lake Sorell and Lake Crescent, there are several boat ramps in the area and trout fishers will love it. After the successful eradication of European carp, Lake Sorell is tipped to become once again the best trout fishing lake in Tasmania over the next few years.
The Interlaken Lakeside Reserve, literally across the road from The Doctor's, is listed as a Ramsar wetlands site and a paradise for bird watchers.
Say hello to Dale, our resident sheep who loves a pat and a nibble on some veggies. And why not take one of our kayaks out and explore the shoreline of Lake Sorell? Or grab the torch and go for a wander at nigh. You will regularly see wallabies, possums, wombats, echidnas, quolls and occasionally Tasmanian devils.
If you want to venture further afield you might begin with Oatlands, 26 kilometres (and a thousand miles away) which boasts Australia’s largest number of Georgian-era sandstone buildings. There’s a working windmill and state-of-the art whiskey distillery. Choose from numerous places to eat – Bunch is a highly recommended pantry and cafe – as well as a well-stocked supermarket and many quaint shops in which to browse.

The Qantas Travel Insider featured The Doctor's as one of Tasmania's most incredible stays to book.
Guest access
It is worth noting that all roads leading to Interlaken are gravel roads. The shortest stretch of gravel road (only the last 15km) is when you approach on the Interlaken Road from Oatlands. You don't need a 4-wheel-drive car to negotiate gravel roads but caution is advised.
There is a slight chance some roads may be closed due to snow in winter. If it did snow though, a 4-wheel-drive is usually adequate to get in and out of Interlaken. There are several different roads you can take to get here and there is hardly ever more than one of those impassable.
There is plenty of parking on the property. Enough space for your boat or trailer. Bring your kayak to explore the lake or your mountain bike if you want to check out some of the many bush tracks in the area.
