The Bennett Farmhouse has been in our family for over 100 years, now cared for by its 4th & 5th generations.
Our grandmother, who lived here is now in assisted living. It's hard for her to be away, so we created short stays so you can visit and so can she!
Your stay helps preserve our farmhouse which features original farm sink, wood details, a wraparound porch with swings and antiques like the wind-up phone & more. Guests step into history while making new memories at our family farm!
The space
Welcome to our family farmhouse, one mile south of Lenox, Iowa. Nestled on three acres of peaceful land, this spacious home has been in our family for generations and now we’re opening it to guests who want to experience a true slice of Iowa life while helping us preserve our heritage.
Inside, you’ll find three bedrooms (one doubles as a cozy library), two living rooms, and a bathroom with its own quirky past, it was once the pantry until my great‑great‑grandmother insisted on an indoor bathroom in the 1940s! The house is filled with original treasures: the front door, farm sink, crank phone, fine china, and countless heirlooms, each with a story to tell.
Step outside to the huge wraparound porch, complete with porch swings and plenty of seating, where you can soak in wide‑open Iowa views. Lenox itself is a small, charming town where “everybody knows everybody" and in my case, I’m related to just about everyone!
This farmhouse is perfect for:

Prices vary depending on requests, but everything is homemade with care.
We welcome small events at the farmhouse, but we must be made aware of any planned gatherings in advance. Extra charges apply, and we can help connect you with local vendors to make your event special.
This is phase one of our journey to save and preserve the farmhouse. We’re starting small, offering it at a lower rate while we gather feedback and ideas to make your stay even better. We invite you to enjoy the memories we’ve shared, create your own, and leave a note in our guest book. Every stay helps us keep this farmhouse alive for future generations.
Guest access
🏡 Guest Access
Guests have full access to the entire farmhouse, including all three bedrooms, two living rooms, and the wraparound porch. We love sharing the history of our home, but some delicate antiques and heirlooms are displayed behind glass. If something looks fragile, we kindly ask that you admire rather than handle it.
🔑 Entry & Security
- Guests will receive a personal code for entry.
- Access is through the side door—when you walk up to the front door, the side entrance is just to the right and around the corner to the left.
- A camera is located outside the front door to monitor arrivals and ensure safety.
- You’ll also be given a code to lock the door during your stay.
- The security alarm is turned off while guests are in residence, so you won’t need to worry about it.
Other things to note
📌 Before You Book
We want to be upfront so you know exactly what to expect. The farmhouse bathroom is part of its charm and history—it was once the pantry until my great‑great‑grandmother insisted on an indoor bathroom in the 1940s!
That said, it’s on the smaller side:
- The shower is a porcelain tub with a wraparound curtain, which can feel a little snug.
- The toilet is close to the tub, so taller guests will find their knees touching it.
It’s perfectly usable, but we like to give a fair warning so you’re not surprised. Most guests find it adds to the quirky character of staying in a historic farmhouse, and the rest of the home offers plenty of space and comfort to balance it out.
