We are passionate about providing an eco-friendly experience for you - organic and locally sourced items wherever possible.

The space
The Attic is a self contained two storey Cottage attached to Aikenhead House - a unique country house and small-holding 3 miles from Blairgowrie. A perfect romantic, peaceful getaway.

Upstairs:
- Super Kingsize bed (OR two single beds)
-Seating area with woodburning stove
- Kitchen area with Fridge, small freezer, induction hobs, oven and grill, cooking utensils etc
- Loo

Downstairs
- Boot room to kick off your outdoor gear
- Shower room
- Utility room with washing and drying facilities. Plus storage for bikes, ski's etc.

Outside:
- Wood Fired Hot tub (perfect for star gazing). Exclusive for The Attic guests. One fire up is included.
- Small patio with BBQ and seating (overlooking the veggie garden and wild flowers)
- Parking outside the entrance to The Attic

Views from The Attic to both the east and west allow you to enjoy the sunrise and sunset.

As it is a converted attic there are areas where the roof height is restricted (max. 2m/6ft7inch). The staircase up to The Attic are steep so care needs to be taken when on the steps.

Guest access
This is a self contained cottage attached to Aikenhead House. Guests will have access to The Attic, boot room and utility rooms.

They are also welcome to wander round the small-holding (but please shut gates if you visit the animals!).

We have additional accommodation available in The Cottage for those weekends away with friends.

Other things to note
Breakfast Bundle - We provide a welcome breakfast bundle to get you started on your first morning (milk, butter, eggs, fresh sourdough and locally roasted coffee). If you have dietary requirements please let us know upon booking.

Height - As this is an attic, it is not ideal for those that are very tall. We can offer The Cottage @aikenheadhouse as an alternative.

Dog Policy:
- Well behaved dogs are welcome (max.2 dogs) and can stay in The Attic or in the boot room downstairs .
- We ask you to keep dogs off the furniture. A cage is available to use if requested.
- Dogs MUST be kept on a lead outside as we have free range chickens and other animals.
- We ask for dogs not to be left unattended in The Attic.
- There is a supplement of £20 per dog per stay

Livestock - We have goats, horses, sheep, pigs and hens. Please check with us before you feed anything to the animals - they do enjoy treats but the wrong type of food could make them ill.

Wifi is available but we have a fair use policy. Also, note that the signal may not be as quick as you may expect in the city.

We do have stacks of DVD's and a laptop if you wish to watch an oldie but goodie film!

A basket of firewood for The Attic stove is provided complimentary. Additional baskets of logs are £20 and buckets of kindling are £5.

The hot tub is wood fired and the first fire up is included. Additional fire ups are charged at £20.

We have modernised as much of this 200 year old building as possible, but please note that it may not be as warm as you would expect if you live in a modern building.

Being in the country is fairly quiet but being a smallholding and surrounded by farmland, at certain times of the year there maybe noise from tractors especially during harvest. We are also very busy all year round, so you will see us at all times of the day working with the animals and in the vegetable garden. We try to be as quiet as possible when guests are around.

Aikenhead House is at the top of a 300m long farm track. There is constant maintenance being done to the track. Please take care driving up and down. It is fine for normal cars but not ideal for sports cars.

Lives in Blairgowrie and Rattray, United Kingdom
We chose the good life over corporate life! Aikenhead House is our home and we've decided to welcome guests in 2019. We have a small holding with animals, chickens and a large organic veggie garden. We are passionate about protecting our planet so run off wood pellets and solar panels, use chemical, plastic free products wherever possible and source local organic food whenever we can. Finally - we love the outdoors and if not at the house are found hiking, cycling, wild swimming or kayaking.
