Experience the feeling of calm when you turn onto the winding private road that takes you to The Hide. Surrounded by forest, and set on the waterfront, the Hide provides an elegant refuge for couples. In a national park like setting and situated centrally, it is the perfect base for exploring popular Bruny Island. With so much to do on the property, as well as wider afield, we recommend a 2-3 night stay if you can fit it into your schedule.
The space
As you park your car and walk onto the Hides deck you will be struck by the views across the water to the wild peaks of south-west Tasmania.
Designed and built by a local craftsman with an eye for detail and love of native timbers. The Hide offers an escape from the ordinary. It entices you to live a different way- to read in the bath, to shower under the stars, to drink tea on the sheepskin rugs in front of a fire...... reconnect with each other and enjoy being in nature.
The hide is made up of two pavilions surrounded by wide decks and a large courtyard. The main pavilion is the living zone with a linen clad queen sized bed and clawfoot bathtub. The tub has a floor to ceiling glass sliding door that can opened to give the illusion and sensation of bathing outdoors.
The day bed is wide and long enough for 2 ,covered in feather filled cushions creating a lush reading and daydreaming space in front of the wood-fired heater.
A simple kitchenette offers all that you need to self cater during your stay. Good locally roasted coffee and loose leaf teas, house made jams and butter are all provided along with other pantry staples.
The second space holds the toilet and handwashing basin alongside a secret dressing room. In the courtyard is a wonderful outdoor shower. If you are feeling like a full immersion into nature, pop on a linen dressing gown and step across the deck to enjoy the exhilaration of a steaming hot shower under the stars
In front of your cabin is a stoned area with a fire pit and wrought iron love seat. The perfect space to sit and gaze at the ocean and spot the wild eagles and other wildlife.
Enjoy easy access to this remote piece of coastline, swim, picnic or beach comb for seahorse skeletons and heart shaped stones.
John is the bruny baker and you may smell the wonderful aroma of wood-fired bread wafting towards your hideaway. On baking days we will drop you warm bread into your letterbox around 830 am.
Power from the sun, pure rainwater, and heating with wood are all part of your stay.
You will be able to see full range of native wildlife including wallabies, possums and quolls. Bird enthusiasts will be delighted by the local families of sea and wedge tailed eagles.
