Unwind to the sounds of native bush, a flowing river & beautiful birdsong in this off-the-beaten-track self service hut. There’s no cell coverage, just Starlink if you choose to stay connected. A cosy hideaway perfect for switching off, soaking in nature & experiencing true Pakihi tranquillity
Explore nearby hiking and biking trails, such as the Motu or enjoy local hunting spots, all surrounded by true Pakihi tranquillity
The space
This cosy, self-service hut is inspired by a DOC hut but far more comfortable, with hot water, power, Wi-Fi and fridges. Access by 4WD across the Pakihi River ford, or walk in over the swing bridge from the Pakihi Hut carpark.
Bring your own towels, pillows and blankets.
Relax around the indoor or outdoor fire, swim in the crystal-clear river waterholes while listening to the beautiful Tui birdsong, unwind in the 4-person sauna, or explore the area on foot, bike or during a hunt. Try your luck fishing in the river, then finish the day under incredible dark skies, listening to the moreporks calling through the bush.
Guest access
Access via 4WD only across the Pakihi stream ford, or a 700m walk over the swing bridge from the Pakihi Hut carpark.
A deep swimming hole sits just downstream of the ford
Other things to note
Ideal for hikers, cyclists, hunters and anyone craving quiet, dark skies and time outdoors. Close to popular trails including the Motu.
This is an unserviced hut, and is priced accordingly.
This means no sheets on beds. Brand new 150mm thick mattresses that are lush and comfortable but similar to a DOC hut mattress, in pvc type cover for sanitary purposes.
Our hut is priced for you to clean up after yourself, but we try to make it easy, there is a vacuum and mop in the bathroom cupboard, please wash your own dishes, and take all food scraps and rubbish away with you as we do not wish to promote rats etc.
